1. Symptoms of excessive iron supplementation in pregnant women

When women take particularly large amounts of iron supplements, it may cause gastrointestinal discomfort and often lead to constipation, which is a problem that plagues many pregnant women. If you are also suffering from constipation, you can try drinking some honey water and eating more fiber-rich foods (such as sweet potatoes) to help you relieve this symptom.

Pregnant women may also feel nauseous or, more rarely, have diarrhea. If taking iron supplements makes you feel uncomfortable, try taking them before bed or try a different iron supplement.

2. Precautions for iron supplementation during pregnancy

1. Drinking soy milk will hinder the body's absorption of iron. People with anemia symptoms, especially children, teenagers and pregnant women in the growth and development period, should drink less soy milk when supplementing iron. Because the protein in beans will hinder the body's absorption of iron. That is to say, if you drink soy milk while eating iron-rich foods, the absorption rate of iron will be greatly reduced and it will not have the effect of replenishing blood.

2. It is best to take iron supplements with VC after meals. Blood-enriching iron supplements will have a certain stimulating effect on the gastric mucosa, so it is best to take them after meals, preferably half an hour after meals. It is also best to supplement some VC at the same time to promote iron absorption.

3. Pregnant women should supplement iron in moderation. During pregnancy, you should increase your nutrition appropriately, eat more foods high in iron, and pay attention to adequate intake of protein, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and other vitamins. For pregnant mothers with anemia, it is important to determine the cause of the anemia, exclude diseases such as thalassemia, and avoid blindly supplementing iron. If the pregnant mother has severe anemia, the treatment plan should be decided according to the degree of anemia. The treatment method should mainly be oral iron supplements, while mild anemia should mainly be treated with dietary supplements.

4. Many pregnant women want to know whether the drugs marked on the instructions as "the safety of use for pregnant and lactating women is unclear" can be used. It is not completely unusable, but they should be used with caution and it is best to consult a doctor. The mark "not yet clear" on the instructions means that there are no problems after testing on animals, but for some reason no relevant tests have been done on humans.
