Menopause symptoms and treatment

Menopause symptoms and treatment

I believe many people know that as people age, their body functions and the functions of their organs will decline to a certain extent. Especially for some women, as they age, they experience a menopausal condition, which is mainly a decline in some physical reactions in daily life. So what are the specific symptoms of menopause in daily life? What methods should be used to treat menopause? Or how to alleviate the impact of these symptoms on people's bodies?

Symptoms of menopausal syndrome include:

Menstrual disorders

The most common symptoms are prolonged menstrual cycle, shortened menstrual period, small menstrual flow, and then gradual cessation; some symptoms are irregular menstruation, early or late menstruation, more or less menstrual flow; some symptoms are extremely heavy menstrual flow, or even heavy bleeding, commonly known as "hemorrhage".

Episodes of hot flashes and sweating

This is the earliest and most characteristic symptom. Hot flashes occur suddenly, starting in the chest and moving to the head, face, and neck, with red patches of skin followed by sweating. After sweating, I feel cold again. The duration can be as short as a few seconds or as long as several minutes. The attacks occur several times a day and are more likely to occur after meals, after exercise, or when emotionally excited. This is a manifestation of heat regulation dysfunction caused by estrogen deficiency, and the incidence rate is about 75% to 85% in menopausal women.

Cardiovascular symptoms

Such as palpitations, paroxysmal tachycardia or bradycardia, hypertension, etc.

Reproductive system symptoms

Such as vaginal dryness and pain, vulvar itching, flat and sagging breasts, and gradual atrophy of the uterus and ovaries.

Psychiatric and psychological symptoms

Such as emotional instability, lack of concentration, irritability, quarrelsomeness, crying, headaches, dizziness, insomnia and fatigue, excessive worry and suspicion, irritability and depression, changes in sexual desire, and sometimes even mood swings, which seem like mental disorders and cannot be controlled by themselves.

other

Dry skin and reduced elasticity; bone decalcification, osteoporosis, and easy fractures; frequent urination, urgency, urinary incontinence and other symptoms.

How to treat female menopausal syndrome

Drug treatment

When treating female menopausal syndrome, clinicians usually choose appropriate drugs for treatment based on the patient's condition. Commonly used drugs include α2 receptor agonists, β-adrenergic blockers, sedatives-anxiety agents and antidepressants.

In addition, in order to effectively curb the development of osteoporosis and reduce the fracture rate, doctors will also choose some drugs that can increase bone strength and curb osteoporosis.

Hormone replacement therapy

Common hormone replacement therapies include: estrogen-progesterone cyclic therapy, estrogen alone cyclic therapy, estrogen-androgen therapy, etc.

Hormone replacement therapy can effectively relieve menopausal symptoms; prevent and treat atrophic lesions of the urogenital tract; control bone loss; improve blood lipid metabolism; and prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease.

It should be noted that patients with a history of embolism, chronic liver and kidney failure, sex hormone-dependent tumors, pyrrolidone deposition disease, severe hypertension, diabetes, severe varicose veins, smoking addiction, and those who cannot adhere to long-term follow-up should use it with caution.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

Traditional Chinese medicine classifies menopause as a period of “dirty and irritable”. Treatment should focus on tonifying the spleen and kidney, regulating Chong and Ren meridians, while also soothing the liver, regulating emotions, controlling desires, arranging appropriate work and rest, and being careful in daily life to complement the treatment.

For those with Yin deficiency and Yang hyperactivity type, it is advisable to nourish Yin and suppress Yang, and you can take Liuwei Dihuang Pills, Wuweizi Granules, etc.; for those with Qi stagnation and blood stasis, it is advisable to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, regulate Qi and calm the mind, and you can take Compound Danshen Tablets, Guizhi Fuling Pills, etc.; for those with phlegm-dampness internal obstruction type, it is advisable to remove dampness and resolve phlegm, strengthen the spleen and harmonize the stomach, and you can take Juhong Huatan Pills, etc.

Psychotherapy

Women in menopause should fully understand this physiological process, eliminate unnecessary mental concerns, and develop practical health care measures based on the physiological characteristics of this period.

For example, live a regular life, combine work and rest, and communicate more with family and friends. Eat more foods containing protein, calcium and vitamins, and less spicy and greasy foods. Don't wear too warm clothes and don't cover yourself with too thick quilts. Participate in cultural, sports and social activities appropriately, and always keep a cheerful spirit and a good mood.
