Does smoking delay menstruation?

We know that cigarettes are harmful to the human body, but many girls also have the habit of smoking. Not only will girls not be able to gain favor from others when they smoke, but it will also cause harm to their own bodies, which is not worth the loss. Compared with men, women are more vulnerable to the harm of cigarettes. For example, some girls will find that their menstruation has changed after smoking and is not as smooth as before. So, does smoking affect delayed menstruation?

1. Causes decreased immunity

Smoking during menstruation can cause women's physical condition to become worse and their immunity to be reduced. In addition to being more susceptible to colds, it can also easily lead to prolonged menstruation; it affects the quality of sleep, causing insomnia, nightmares, and irritability; in addition, women who smoke frequently have a higher risk of breast cancer, heart disease, and lung disease, and are also susceptible to various gynecological diseases.

2. Irregular menstruation

Smoking during menstruation, the harmful substances in cigarettes are more likely to inhibit the secretion of female hormones, causing irregular menstruation. Women who have already suffered from dysmenorrhea should be more careful, as smoking during menstruation can easily make the symptoms of dysmenorrhea more severe.

3. Aggravate dysmenorrhea symptoms

Smoking can cause vasoconstriction, slow blood flow, and reduce blood flow to the endometrium. Women who already have dysmenorrhea may have their symptoms become more severe, and women who originally did not have dysmenorrhea may also develop dysmenorrhea due to smoking.

4. Damage to bones

Women who smoke during menstruation are more likely to loosen their bones, making them more fragile and easily inducing osteoporosis. Studies have shown that long-term smoking in women will reduce the bone density of the lumbar spine and femur, and if not maintained, it is more likely to cause fractures.

If women smoke for a long time, it may affect their menstruation. The main ingredient in cigarettes is nicotine, which can reduce the secretion of sex hormones in women, thereby disrupting the physiological process of menstruation, causing delayed menstruation, menstrual disorders, less menstrual flow, and may even lead to amenorrhea.
