It refers to blood deficiency, malnutrition of internal organs, meridians and body, with pale or sallow complexion, pale lips, tongue, nails and nails, dizziness, palpitations, nightmares, numbness of hands and feet, scanty and light-colored menstruation, late or amenorrhea in women, and thin pulse as common symptoms.

1. Blood deficiency syndrome in palpitations

Symptoms: palpitations, dizziness, insomnia, pale complexion, fatigue, pale red tongue, and weak pulse. Treatment principle: Nourish the blood and nourish the heart, replenish qi and calm the mind. Main prescription: Guipi Decoction. Prescription: Atractylodes macrocephala, Angelica sinensis, white Poria cocos, fried Astragalus membranaceus, Polygala tenuifolia, longan pulp, fried Ziziphus jujuba seeds, Codonopsis pilosula, costus root, roasted licorice, ginger, and jujube.

2. Blood deficiency syndrome in asthenia

The main clinical manifestations are symptoms of heart and liver blood deficiency.

(1) Symptoms of heart-blood deficiency: palpitations, forgetfulness, insomnia, sallow complexion, pale tongue, and thin or intermittent pulse. Treatment principle: Nourish blood and calm the mind. Main prescription: Yangxin Decoction. Prescription: Angelica sinensis, raw rehmannia root, cooked rehmannia root, Codonopsis pilosula, Ophiopogon japonicus, Schisandra chinensis, roasted licorice, cypress seed, Poria cocos, rush, and lotus seeds.

(2) Symptoms of liver-blood deficiency: dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, side pain, restlessness, irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, and even skin and nails becoming rough, pale complexion, pale tongue, and a thready pulse. Treatment principle: Nourish the blood and liver. Main formula: Siwu Decoction with added ingredients. Prescription: Angelica sinensis, Rehmannia root, White Peony Root, and Ligusticum chuanxiong.

3. Blood deficiency syndrome in vertigo

Symptoms: dizziness, aggravated by movement and flare-up during exertion, pale complexion, pale lips and nails, often accompanied by fatigue, shortness of breath, laziness to speak, palpitations and insomnia. Treatment principle: Nourish the blood and nourish the heart, replenish qi and calm the mind. Main prescription: Guipi Decoction. Prescription: Atractylodes macrocephala, Angelica sinensis, white Poria cocos, fried Astragalus membranaceus, Polygala tenuifolia, longan pulp, fried Ziziphus jujuba seeds, Codonopsis pilosula, costus root, roasted licorice, ginger, and jujube.

4. Blood deficiency syndrome in headache

Symptoms: Headache and dizziness, dull pain, aggravated by exertion, pale complexion, palpitations, restlessness, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Treatment principle: Nourish Qi and blood. Main recipe: Bazhen Soup. Prescription: sun-dried ginseng, white poria, atractylodes, roasted licorice, rehmannia root, angelica, white peony root, and ligusticum chuanxiong.

5. Blood deficiency syndrome in constipation

Symptoms: dry and hard stools, difficulty in defecation, fatigue, dull complexion, dizziness, palpitations, pale lips, and thin pulse. Treatment principle: Nourish blood, moisten intestines and promote bowel movements. Main prescription: Runchang Pills. Prescription: Angelica sinensis, Rehmannia root, peach kernel, hemp seed, and Citrus aurantium.

6. Blood deficiency syndrome in hemorrhagic diseases

Symptoms: Nosebleed, or combined with toothbleed and musclebleed, fatigue, pale complexion, dizziness, tinnitus, palpitations, weak pulse, etc. Treatment principle: tonify Qi and regulate blood. Main prescription: Ginseng Guipi Decoction. Prescription: fried astragalus, white atractylodes, angelica, white poria, polygala, longan pulp, fried jujube kernel, sun-dried ginseng, costus root, roasted licorice, ginger, and jujube.

7. Blood deficiency syndrome in febrile illness

Symptoms: fever, worse at night and less during the day, palpitations, fatigue, sallow complexion, pale tongue and thready pulse. Treatment principle: clear away heat and nourish blood. Main prescription: Danggui Buxue Decoction. Prescription: Angelica sinensis and Astragalus membranaceus.
