What should I do if my hcg value is low?

Women in the early stages of pregnancy need to go to the hospital for an hCG test. They must grasp the time of the test. If they are confirmed to be pregnant, they must do this test in time. Many people do not know what hCG means. This is a chorionic gonadotropin in the human body. Its essence is a glycoprotein. For pregnant women, it is very important to maintain the hCG value within the normal range. So if the hCG value of a pregnant woman is low, how to solve it?

What should I do if my hcg value is low?

Go to the hospital and ask the doctor. The normal value of blood hCG is <10μg/L, and the normal value of β-hCG is <3.1μg/L. β-hCG is a part of hCG. Generally, the β-hCG radioimmunoassay value of a normal woman is less than 3.1. If it exceeds 5, the possibility of pregnancy can be considered. If it exceeds 10, pregnancy can be basically confirmed.

The absolute values of serum hCG vary greatly at different stages of pregnancy and between pregnant women. They are not comparable with each other and can only be compared within themselves. During the first 3 months of pregnancy, hCG levels approximately double every 2.2±0.5 days.

The hCG test is done by drawing blood from a vein. Since the hCG content is not affected by eating, there is no need to fast or hold urine. It is recommended to check in the morning. Currently, the following three measurement methods are commonly used in clinical practice: enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) screening method, sandwich enzyme immunoassay method, and immune colloidal gold method. These methods have good sensitivity, low cost, and rapid detection, and are widely used in clinical practice.

When you go to the hospital for a check-up, you can bring some books to help you pass the time while waiting in line. Wear loose clothes. If you wear too many or too tight clothes, it is best to take off the sleeve on the side where blood is to be drawn to avoid the clothes pressing on the blood vessels too tightly or for too long, causing some trouble.

You should clench your fist when drawing blood, and you can release your fist when the needle enters the blood vessel. At this time, you should keep a calm and stable state of mind. If you are nervous about venipuncture and blood drawing or feel nausea and dizziness at the sight of blood, you can close your eyes or turn your head. After blood drawing, immediately press the puncture site with a sterile cotton pad or other sterile hemostatic item, or bend your arm to clamp the cotton ball to prevent blood from seeping out. After that, the arm where the blood was drawn should be kept as clean as possible within 24 hours.

During early pregnancy, if the blood hCG value is low, it may be due to miscalculation of the last menstrual period. At this time, you should check again the next day. If the rising number does not double, you need to go to the hospital for a B-ultrasound at 45 days to determine whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy. If it is an intrauterine pregnancy, it may be caused by delayed fetal development. If there is no accompanying bleeding or other conditions, you need to go to the hospital in time for pregnancy preservation treatment. If there is no problem with the development of the embryo itself, hCG will double after effective treatment.

In ectopic pregnancy, blood hCG will be lower than the normal pregnancy value during the same period. Therefore, when an ultrasound examination determines that it is an ectopic pregnancy, the patient needs to be hospitalized for treatment immediately.
