I got pregnant after one year of amenorrhea

When women reach a certain age, their menstrual periods will stop, which is also known as "amenorrhea". Menstruation is closely related to pregnancy. When the body has stopped menopause, women will feel that they are not likely to get pregnant again, so they can be "unprotected" during sex. So, is it still possible to get pregnant after menopause? Let’s find out.

Can you still get pregnant after menopause?

Amenorrhea makes it difficult to get pregnant. Generally, there is no ovulation after menopause, so it should be difficult to get pregnant.

But in fact, the decline of ovulatory function of the uterus and ovaries does not mean that ovulation does not occur at all. In particular, ovulation cycles are still common in the early stage of menopause, and are gradually replaced by anovulatory cycles. Due to the decline of the ovaries, the original ovulation regularity is disrupted, and women's ovulation period is difficult to predict, and it is even possible that there will be more than one ovulation in a month. Therefore, in the first two years of menopause, including within one year after menopause, pregnancy is still possible. If you don't want to receive "unexpected surprises", it is recommended that menopausal women should still take good contraceptive measures.

Common complications after menopause

1. Vaginitis in the elderly. Normal pregnant women's uterus and ovaries secrete estrogen, which causes the vaginal mucosal epithelial cells to proliferate and hypertrophy, and have a strong antibacterial ability. After menopause, women's ovaries decline, estrogen levels decrease, the glycogen content in squamous epithelial cells decreases, and the pH value of the vagina increases, changing from acidic to alkaline, which is not conducive to the survival of lactobacilli in the female vagina, resulting in the weakening of nitrogen circulation in the vagina. In addition, because the vaginal wall shrinks and softens, blood circulation is insufficient, the body's resistance is reduced, and it is easy to be infected by other parasitic flora in the female vagina, causing senile vaginitis. It is often caused by common pathogenic bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus aureus, Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

2. Osteoporosis. After menopause, estrogen deficiency can lead to increased bone resorption, impaired intestinal calcium absorption, decreased parathyroid hormone metabolism, decreased bone formation and weakened inhibitory effect on osteoblasts, leading to increased muscle mass loss. Starting from the menopausal transition period, the average annual muscle loss rate is 1% to 3%, or even 5%, which lasts for 5 to 10 years. Then the muscle mass is relatively stable, with less loss for about 10 to 20 years. After the age of 70, there is another accelerated loss of muscle mass with aging.

3. Osteoarthritis. The loss of estrogen protection and abnormal levels of related cytokines in menopausal women play a key role in the onset of osteoarthritis. Postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has a certain effect in alleviating the pain symptoms of knee osteoarthritis.

Whether a woman can still get pregnant after menopause depends on whether the body is still in the ovulation period. Some women will also experience ovulation after menopause, so there is a possibility of pregnancy. Therefore, it is recommended that if women want to have sex during the period just after menopause, they should take good contraceptive measures to avoid the risk of accidental pregnancy.
