Vulvar swelling in late pregnancy

Vulvar swelling in late pregnancy

Expectant mothers will always encounter various problems during pregnancy, especially in the late pregnancy. As the belly continues to grow over the past few months, the burden on the body increases, and the body is overly tired, which often leads to too many problems in the mind. Sometimes a small reaction or symptom makes them anxious. Vulva swelling is prone to occur in the late pregnancy, which often causes anxiety for expectant mothers, but in fact this is a very normal symptom, which is explained in detail below.

1. Causes of vulvar swelling

In the middle and late stages of pregnancy, the blood flow in the pelvic cavity will increase significantly. In addition, the enlarged uterus will compress the inferior vena cava, and the hormone levels in the body will increase. These factors will increase the pressure in the inferior vena cava, obstruct blood return, cause the venous wall to expand and twist, form varicose veins, and thus cause edema.

Due to different physical conditions, some pregnant women may also experience swelling of the vulva accompanied by symptoms such as abnormal leucorrhea and itching. In this case, it is best for pregnant mothers to go to the hospital to check whether it is caused by inflammation. If the mother feels obvious discomfort, she can lie in bed and rest for a while. Generally, the swelling will disappear after delivery.

2. Solution

Because it is a special period, it is not recommended to use medication when vulva swelling occurs. You can clean it with potassium permanganate solution or baking soda before going to bed every night, and then apply hot compress for about 10 minutes. You should pay attention to changing your underwear frequently and try to choose loose and breathable cotton underwear.

In addition to swelling of the vulva, other parts of the body may also swell or change during pregnancy. These changes can make pregnant women feel a little uncomfortable, but the degree of discomfort depends on individual physical condition. If you experience these swellings during pregnancy, you don’t need to worry too much, because this is also a normal symptom of pregnancy.
