Does curettage require hospitalization?

Does curettage require hospitalization?

Curettage is a relatively traditional method of abortion. It is a better choice for terminating pregnancy for women who have an unexpected pregnancy or who find that there is a problem with the fetus during pregnancy. Of course, after the curettage, you need to rest for a certain period of time, because curettage has a great impact on the uterus. Of course, rest does not mean hospitalization. After curettage, women only need to do postoperative care.

1. Does curettage require hospitalization?

Abortion does not require hospitalization, because the patient can be discharged immediately after waking up from the operation. The important thing to pay attention to after the abortion operation is to replenish your sleep time in time. It is also very important to eat more nutritious foods after the abortion. Rest is also very important for abortion, so you cannot go back to work immediately after the abortion, as this will leave bad sequelae on your body.

Second, complications of curettage

1. Intraoperative complications

Uterine bleeding is more than 200 ml; abortion syndrome is also known as cardio-cerebral syndrome, with an incidence rate of 12%. The patient suddenly develops a series of symptoms such as bradycardia, arrhythmia, low blood pressure, pale face, profuse sweating, etc. In severe cases, even fainting and convulsions may occur; uterine perforation; missed aspiration, the embryonic tissue cannot be aspirated out, and the pregnancy continues to develop.

2. Recent complications

Incomplete artificial abortion, vaginal bleeding lasting more than 15 days after surgery; endometritis, adnexitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc. due to infection with pathogenic bacteria within 2 weeks after surgery; intrauterine blood accumulation; intrauterine adhesions, postoperative amenorrhea or significantly reduced menstrual volume, sometimes accompanied by periodic lower abdominal pain or uterine enlargement and blood accumulation.

3. Long-term complications

Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease; menstrual abnormalities; secondary infertility; endometriosis.

4. Complications of subsequent pregnancy

Infertility; high rate of late miscarriage; high rate of premature birth; high perinatal mortality rate; increased rate of antepartum and postpartum hemorrhage; increased neonatal hemolytic disease.

3. Precautions after curettage

1. Observe for 1-2 hours after surgery and pay attention to bleeding and lower abdominal pain. Pay attention to rest and strengthen nutrition after leaving the hospital. After the abortion, you should rest in bed for 2-3 days, and gradually increase your activity time to reduce the incidence of intrauterine blood accumulation. Do not engage in heavy physical labor or work in cold water within half a month after the abortion to avoid catching cold. Pay attention to increasing nutrition, eat more protein-rich foods such as fish, meat, eggs, bean products and fresh vegetables rich in vitamins to promote early repair of damaged endometrium;

2. Keep the vulva clean. Sexual intercourse and bathing are strictly prohibited within one month. After an abortion, the cervix has not completely closed and the endometrium also has a process of repair. During this period, special attention should be paid to keeping the vulva clean and hygienic, and the sanitary napkins and underwear used should be washed and changed frequently.

3. Observe the bleeding. If vaginal bleeding lasts for more than one week after an abortion, or is even accompanied by lower abdominal pain, fever, turbid and smelly leucorrhea, and other abnormal symptoms, you should go to the hospital for a follow-up visit in time.

4. Adhere to contraception. After abortion, the ovarian and uterine functions gradually recover, and the ovaries ovulate on schedule. If you do not persist in contraception, you will get pregnant again soon. Therefore, after an abortion, you should choose reliable contraceptive measures as soon as possible. The World Health Organization has clearly pointed out that taking contraceptive measures immediately after an abortion is of great significance for reducing the rate of repeated abortions and reducing postoperative complications. It is recommended to place an intrauterine contraceptive device at the same time as an abortion and to take short-acting contraceptives orally after the abortion. Contraception must be the main method, and abortion cannot be used as a contraceptive measure.
