Symptoms of cervical ripening

Symptoms of cervical ripening

Pregnant mothers are worried and want to know how long it will take for the baby to come out of their belly, but going to the hospital for a check-up is also a rather troublesome thing, because there are usually a lot of people in the hospital, and it takes a lot of time to register and see a doctor, which is also very bad for the health of the pregnant woman. Cervical ripening is mainly a symptom when the baby is about to come out of the mother's belly, so what are the symptoms of cervical ripening?

1. How to judge the maturity of the cervix

Cervical ripening refers to the softening, shortening, disappearance and dilation of the cervix before labor begins. Currently, the Bishop cervical maturity score is mainly used in medicine to check the cervical maturity of pregnant women. It can predict the delivery time of pregnant women and whether they have entered the labor stage. It mainly checks the cervical dilation, the state of cervical canal effacement, the position of the presenting part, the hardness of the cervix, and the position of the cervical os. The full score of this score is 13 points.

2. When to do cervical maturity test

The cervical maturity check is performed in the late pregnancy. Before 36 weeks of pregnancy, the cervical measurement value of the pregnant woman is relatively constant, but as the due date approaches, the cervix is closer to maturity. Generally, a check is done at 37 weeks of pregnancy to predict the time of delivery. During the prenatal check-up in the late pregnancy, the doctor will request this examination to determine whether labor has already begun, or to determine the specific time for induction of labor. For pregnant women who are already in labor, the doctor will also perform a cervical ripening examination.

3. How to do cervical maturity test

There are two methods for checking cervical maturity: transabdominal B-ultrasound examination and perineal examination. Currently, the traditional perineal examination is commonly used, which helps doctors to more directly judge whether the cervix is mature. During the examination, the doctor will disinfect his hands and the expectant mother's vulva, and put on sterile gloves to check the softness, length, position, dilation and position of the presenting part of the cervix to determine whether labor is imminent. The cervical maturity test depends on the doctor's expertise and the sensitivity of the expectant mother. It may sometimes cause slight bleeding and be accompanied by a little pain during the test. Expectant mothers should pay attention to relaxing themselves and avoid being too nervous when undergoing cervical maturity tests.

4. The role of cervical maturity examination

1. Determine the time of admission to the hospital to avoid unexpected accidents: Prenatal examination of cervical maturity can determine the time of delivery and make predictions in advance, so that pregnant women who are close to delivery can be admitted to the hospital at the most appropriate time to avoid accidents due to sudden attacks.

2. Predict in advance and prevent miscarriage: Checking the cervical maturity can predict in advance, and it is possible to take effective measures to promote cervical ripening that are similar to natural cervical ripening.

3. Confirm the time of induction of labor: Pregnant women who are preparing to undergo induced labor must know that cervical maturity is the main reason affecting the success rate of induced labor. Induction of labor with an immature cervix is not easy to succeed.
