How to check cervical maturity

How to check cervical maturity

Many pregnant mothers need to check the maturity of their cervix before giving birth. The purpose is to check the condition of the baby in the belly and to see the situation when giving birth. Many people know that mothers need to check the maturity of their cervix, but many people do not know how to check the maturity of the cervix. Here are some methods for checking the maturity of the cervix. I hope it can solve your troubles.

1. Cervical maturity examination method

There are two methods for checking cervical maturity: transabdominal B-ultrasound examination and perineal examination. Currently, the traditional perineal examination is commonly used, which helps doctors to more directly judge whether the cervix is mature. During the examination, the doctor will disinfect his hands and the expectant mother's vulva, and put on sterile gloves to check the softness, length, position, dilation and position of the presenting part of the cervix to determine whether labor is imminent. The cervical maturity test depends on the doctor's expertise and the sensitivity of the expectant mother. It may sometimes cause slight bleeding and be accompanied by a little pain during the test. Expectant mothers should pay attention to relaxing themselves and avoid being too nervous when undergoing cervical maturity tests.

2. Necessity of cervical maturity examination

The cervical maturity test is one of the internal examinations during pregnancy. It is required for both natural birth and caesarean section. The purpose is to observe whether it is suitable for natural birth and to stimulate the ripening of the cervix in time to avoid overdue pregnancy.

3. What to do if the cervical score is too low

Many expectant mothers who are close to or have passed their due date have low cervical maturity scores, usually <6 points, but do not want to give birth by caesarean section and need cervical ripening to induce labor. Doctors will use prostaglandin preparations to promote cervical ripening. There are other methods such as cervical dilator insertion and oxytocin infusion. If induced labor cannot be achieved through cervical ripening, risk factors cannot be eliminated, vaginal delivery is not possible in the short term, or the patient's condition is critical, cesarean section should be quickly chosen to terminate the pregnancy.
