The dangers and side effects of female intrauterine device

Female IUD is a commonly used contraceptive method. After giving birth, women generally prefer to use this method of contraception. It is more convenient and simpler, and saves the trouble of condoms and contraceptives. Of course, if the IUD is inserted improperly, it may cause certain side effects. Some people are prone to back pain and lower abdominal pain, which may lead to increased vaginal discharge. Let’s learn about it.

The dangers and side effects of female intrauterine device

1. Lower abdominal pain or backache:

After insertion, the intrauterine device can easily cause uterine contractions, which may lead to mild lower abdominal pain or back pain.

2. Increased leucorrhea:

This is one of the disadvantages of having an IUD. If an intrauterine device with a tail thread is used, it can cause a significant increase in cervical secretions. Over time, the endometrial tissue adapts. If the amount of vaginal discharge increases and you experience symptoms such as fever, lower abdominal pain, etc., you need to seek medical attention immediately.

3. Minor bleeding:

The side effects of IUD insertion mainly occur 3-4 days after insertion, because the intrauterine device can scratch the cervical canal lining and cause bleeding while stimulating uterine contraction. If the bleeding is not excessive, no treatment is necessary and the condition will generally return to normal after a week.

4. Increased menstrual volume:

This side effect mainly occurs in the first three months after the IUD is inserted. Due to the drastic change in the body's balance, women's menstrual cycle will be prolonged or irregular spotting will occur.

5. Infection:

This is the most criticized disadvantage of having an IUD. In order to prevent infection, doctors will strictly disinfect the female vulva, vagina, endometrium and other parts when inserting an IUD to avoid infection. If a woman has a history of genital tract inflammation, or has sex too early or too frequently after having an IUD inserted, infection may occur.

6. Cause discomfort to the man:

This situation mainly occurs when the tail thread of the intrauterine contraceptive device used is too hard or too long. This situation can cause pain to the man during intercourse, or even cause him to be stabbed. You can ask a doctor to cut the tail thread to an appropriate length.

There are many side effects of IUD insertion, but the above are all normal side effects. The discomfort symptoms will decrease or disappear after the body adapts. If the symptoms are severe, you can go to the hospital for examination and treatment. If the treatment is ineffective, the intrauterine device can be removed and other methods of contraception can be used instead.
