How is the uterine septum formed?

The uterine septum is also called the septate uterus. It is a manifestation of abnormal uterine development. Generally speaking, if this manifestation occurs, it will often lead to infertility in women. Sometimes even if pregnancy occurs, it is easy to induce miscarriage and cause abnormal fetal position. The main reason for the formation of this uterine septum is congenital developmental malformation. In order to get a complete cure, surgical treatment is required.

How is the uterine septum formed?

A septate uterus is a condition in which the uterus develops abnormally. Generally, it is not easy to get pregnant, and even if you get pregnant, it can easily lead to miscarriage, premature birth, and abnormal fetal position. If the placenta adheres to the mediastinum, retained placenta may occur after delivery. If a patient with a uterus septum has infertility and recurrent miscarriage, the septum can be removed by hysteroscopy under laparoscopy or by transabdominal surgery.

Generally speaking, it is safer to consider pregnancy after surgical treatment after the condition is discovered. Go to the hospital for timely examination and diagnosis and receive treatment as soon as possible. Combined with thorough treatment of the disease, normal pregnancy is possible. Currently, the minimally invasive treatment of hysteroscopic removal of the uterine septum is used clinically. It has small trauma and fast recovery, no obvious bleeding during the operation, preserves the integrity of the uterine wall, and has no effect on pregnancy and delivery after the operation.

At present, this situation is considered to be caused by congenital developmental malformations. It is recommended to go to the hospital for surgery before preparing for pregnancy. Without surgery, it may lead to miscarriage or premature birth. I am currently pregnant, so I can observe first. It is recommended not to do strenuous exercise and go to the hospital regularly to check the development of the fetus. As long as it grows normally, there is nothing wrong. Take folic acid tablets orally in early pregnancy to prevent fetal cardiovascular malformations.

Treatment principles:

(I) Hysteroscopic resection of the uterine septum:

It can effectively observe and accurately diagnose the symptoms inside the uterine wall, and use electroresection or micro-scissors to perform excision. It can effectively restore the normal state of the uterine cavity while maintaining the integrity of the uterine wall. It can enable patients to have a normal pregnancy within a short time after the operation, and completely avoid various complications caused by traditional surgical methods. At the same time, the operation is simpler, the operation time is shorter, and the recovery after surgery is faster.

(II) Hysteroscopic and laparoscopic combined surgery:

Combined hysteroscopy and laparoscopy combines the advantages of both hysteroscopy and laparoscopy and has both diagnostic and therapeutic effects. Hysteroscopic septum resection under laparoscopic monitoring is safer than simple hysteroscopic septum resection. Laparoscopic monitoring makes it easier to observe the uterine morphology and assist the hysteroscope in diagnosing difficult uterine malformations. In addition, during the hysteroscopic resection, the hysteroscopic transmittance of the uterine muscle wall can be observed through laparoscope, which can help determine the thickness of the uterine muscle wall and remind the surgeon when to terminate the operation.
