Why don't you want to eat after giving birth?

Some women's bodies will undergo some changes after giving birth. Because of childbirth, their bodies have endured too much pain, which will lead to a poor appetite. However, women must try their best to eat some nutritious products after giving birth. This will not only promote their milk production, but also replenish their weak bodies. Only when the body is healthy will the nutrients in the milk be sufficient. So what is the reason for not wanting to eat after giving birth?

The real reason for insufficient milk supply

Breastfeeding has received increasing attention. However, many new mothers say: "I really want to breastfeed, but my milk is so little. My baby won't be full. What should I do without formula?" Obstetricians and gynecologists say that only a very small number of new mothers have no breast milk or very little breast milk. In fact, most mothers' milk is enough for their babies. But why do so many mothers have "insufficient milk" and what is the real reason for insufficient milk?

This is because the breastfeeding skills are not mastered or the supply and demand relationship is not established during the first week after delivery, which is the "golden time" for establishing a breastfeeding relationship.

Things you need to know about insufficient milk supply

So in order to avoid insufficient milk, pregnant women must know:

1. 72 hours after delivery is the lactation transition period

As a mother, don't panic if you have little milk in the first few days, because 72 hours after delivery is the lactation period, which is a transition period from low milk production to high milk production.

Early sucking after delivery can promote the hypothalamus to release oxytocin and prolactin, which can cause the breasts to produce milk earlier and facilitate milk secretion.

If the mother uses bottle feeding when the milk supply is low, it will reduce the stimulation of the newborn to the mother's nipple, thus leading to breastfeeding failure.

2. Early contact and sucking within half an hour after birth

The World Health Organization and UNICEF recommend the definition of exclusive breastfeeding as: providing infants with early contact and early sucking within half an hour after birth, without adding any food or drinks, including water, other than breast milk.

This will strengthen the baby's sucking ability, stimulate the nipple nerve endings through early sucking and transmit them to the anterior pituitary gland, prompting the mammary gland to secrete milk earlier and fill the breast earlier, ensuring that the newborn can eat enough breast milk without adding any milk substitutes.

The more the baby sucks, the more stimulation the mother's nipples and areola are given, and the more milk is secreted. Effective sucking is also beneficial to milk secretion and breast emptying, which can advance the onset of lactation, increase milk secretion, and prevent milk stasis. Therefore, early sucking is the key to maintaining continuous milk secretion from the mammary glands.
