Why do I have excessive vaginal discharge after sex?

Some couples will have excessive vaginal discharge in women after having sex. This is not a sign of health, but may be a symptom of vaginitis. There is more than one type of vaginitis, such as bacterial vaginitis, Trichomonas vaginitis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, etc. Different types of vaginitis have different treatments, and they must be treated symptomatically. Why does excessive vaginal discharge occur after sex? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. What is the reason for excessive vaginal discharge after sex?

If you have more vaginal discharge after having sex, it may be vaginitis. You should go to a regular hospital for a routine check-up to find out what kind of vaginitis it is and then treat it accordingly.

2. Treatment of vaginitis

1. General treatment

Educate patients to pay attention to personal and partner hygiene, keep the vulva clean, change underwear frequently, and strengthen physical exercise.

2. Medication

Metronidazole, tinidazole, and clindamycin can be used to treat bacterial vaginosis; miconazole suppositories and fluconazole can be used to treat candidal vaginitis; metronidazole can be used for the initial treatment of Trichomonas vaginitis. If side effects are found, the drug should be discontinued and drinking is prohibited during medication. Estrogen can be supplemented for senile vaginitis.

3. Diet adjustment

It is advisable to eat more yogurt containing rich active Lactobacillus acidophilus, such as bifidobacterium yogurt, soy oligosaccharides, etc.; eat more complex carbohydrate foods, such as whole grains, whole wheat, brown rice and vegetables.

4. Western medicine treatment of vaginitis

1. Trichomonas vaginitis:

a. Systemic medication: Trichomonas vaginitis is often accompanied by Trichomonas infection in the urogenital system and intestines. It is not easy to completely eliminate Trichomonas with simple local medication, so systemic medication should be used. Metronidazole 2g, taken all at once; or 200mg, 3 times a day, for 7 days. It has good oral absorption, high efficacy, low toxicity, and is easy to use. The husband or sexual partner needs to be treated at the same time. You can also use 2g of metronidazole, taken all at once. The efficacy is better than metronidazole, and the gastrointestinal side effects are reduced.

b. Topical medication: Topical medication is also effective, but slightly inferior to oral administration. Metronidazole 200 mg, inserted into the vagina once every night for 7-10 days. The medication should be continued for 3 cycles. You can also use 0.5% acetic acid solution to flush the vagina.

2. Vulvovaginal candidiasis:

a. Remove the inducement: stop using antibiotics and estrogen, etc., and actively treat diabetes.

b. Topical medication: Choose one of the following:

Miconazole soft capsule 1200 mg, single dose. Miconazole suppository/soft capsule 400 mg, once every night for 3 days. Miconazole suppository 200 mg, once every night for 7 days. Clotrimazole suppository/tablet 500 mg, single dose. Clotrimazole suppository 100 mg, once every night for 7 days. Nystatin effervescent tablets 100,000 U, once a night for 14 days. Nystatin tablets 500,000 U, once a night for 14 days.

c. Systemic medication: Suitable for unmarried women without sex life, those who are inconvenient to use local medication when going out, and those who are about to have their menstrual period. Fluconazole 150 mg, taken once.

3. Bacterial vaginosis:

a. Systemic medication: Metronidazole 500 mg, twice a day, for 7 days, the effective rate can reach 98.8%; clindamycin 300 mg, twice a day, for 7 days, the effective rate can reach 94%.

b. Topical medication: Metronidazole 200 mg, placed in the vagina, for 7 days; 2% clindamycin ointment 300 mg, applied to the vagina, for 7 days. The efficacy is slightly worse than oral administration.

4. Vulvovaginitis in young girls: Keep the vulva clean and dry, reduce friction; apply antibiotics topically and systemically; if there is foreign matter, it can be removed under sedation or anesthesia.

5. Senile vaginitis:

a. Rinse the vagina with 1% lactic acid solution or 0.5% acetic acid solution once a day to increase the acidity of the vagina.

b. Topical metronidazole 200 mg once a day for 7-10 days; or oral metronidazole 200 mg 3 times a day for 7 days. You can also use 0.5% acetic acid solution to flush the vagina. Intravaginal thiocarbamide tablets, or vaginal application of estrogen, chloramphenicol, or cod liver oil.

c. Estrogen replacement therapy (HRT).
