Tips on how to clean menstrual blood

Menstruation is a normal physiological phenomenon for women. Its occurrence every month also brings symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and stomach pain. Although sanitary napkins are used for menstruation, it is inevitable that improper care may lead to soiling of one's underwear. Blood stains are difficult to clean, which is very frustrating. In fact, some small tricks can solve this problem. So, what are some tips on how to clean menstrual blood?

1. Wash with cold water

Menstrual blood contains protein, and washing with hot water will cause the protein to coagulate, making the mark even more difficult to wash off. Therefore, underwear that has just been stained with blood should be washed with cold or warm water.

2. Soak with enzyme laundry detergent

When the blood has not coagulated, the iron in hemoglobin exists in the form of ferrous iron and is soluble in water. Over time, the ferrous iron in hemoglobin is oxidized into ferric iron and coagulates with protein, forming blood stains on underwear that are difficult to wash off. At this time, you can use enzyme laundry detergent to soak and wash. The alkaline protease in enzyme laundry detergent can loosen and break down the protein in the blood stains, allowing them to be peeled off the underwear.

3. Rub the white radish with salt

Wash the white radish, mash it with a pestle to extract the juice, pour the radish juice on the bloodstained area of the underwear, sprinkle with salt, and rub it a few more times. The blood stains can be rubbed off quickly.

4. Soak in bleach

If there are stubborn blood stains on your underwear from a long time ago, you can soak them in warm water with a little bleach for half an hour, then rub and clean them with soap, and finally rinse them with clean water. Attention! Bleach is very irritating, so wash it several times with clean water.

5. Sodium thiosulfate soaking

You can use 1 part sodium thiosulfate and 50 parts water, mix them, dilute and dissolve them, heat them to 35°C, soak your underwear until the blood color disappears, and then wash with water. When rinsing with clean water, soak for half an hour to ensure that no sodium thiosulfate remains.

5. Scrub with sulfur soap

Soak the underwear in cold water and scrub it directly with sulfur soap to remove blood stains cleanly. Old blood stains need to be rubbed twice more.

6. Notes

Do not wash underwear with blood stains together with other clothes to avoid cross infection of bacteria. After washing, the underwear should be exposed to the sun for disinfection to avoid any bacteria residue on the underwear.
