Does blood type affect the occurrence of tumors?

Blood type, a seemingly ordinary physiological characteristic, is actually closely related to the occurrence of cancer! In recent years, the medical community has conducted in-depth research on this and found that people with different blood types have different risks of developing cancer. This article will reveal this mysterious phenomenon to help you better understand and prevent cancer.

What is blood type

Blood type refers to the antigenic substances on the surface of red blood cells in human blood, which are mainly divided into four types: A, B, AB and O, as well as Rh blood type system and MN blood type system. In recent years, more and more studies have shown that blood type may affect the occurrence and development of tumors. Through long-term large-scale investigations and studies, scientists have gradually revealed the mysterious relationship between different blood types and cancer risks.

How much does blood type have to do with disease, even cancer?

People with non-O blood types (A, B, and AB) seem to be more susceptible to circulatory system diseases, while people with O blood type are more susceptible to digestive system diseases. In terms of digestive tract cancer, people with type A blood have a relatively higher risk of digestive tract cancer. According to statistics, compared with people with type A blood, the risk of digestive system tumors in people with non-A blood type is reduced by about 20%. Among them, the risk of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer in people with type B blood is reduced by 25% and 22% respectively, and that of people with type AB blood is reduced by 24% and 32% respectively, while there is no significant difference between people with type O blood and people with type A blood in terms of gastric cancer and intestinal cancer.

In liver cancer, people with AB blood type have the highest risk, 42% higher than non-AB blood type. However, AB and O blood types can reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer. In other cancers, people with B blood type have a relatively lower risk of cancer. In particular, the risk of cancer in gastric cancer, bladder cancer and colorectal cancer is significantly reduced in people with B blood type.

Why is blood type related to cancer?

Although the scientific community has not yet fully revealed the specific association mechanism between blood type and cancer, some studies have provided us with clues. First, there is a view that ABO blood type antigens may affect systemic inflammatory responses. And long-term chronic inflammation has been proven to be associated with the occurrence of cancer. Secondly, studies have shown that people with type A blood are more susceptible to Helicobacter pylori infection than people with other blood types, which may increase the risk of gastric cancer in people with type A blood. In addition, some scholars have proposed that the structure of tumor antigens is similar to that of ABO blood type antigens, which makes it possible for tumor antigens to disguise themselves as blood type antigens, thereby escaping recognition and attack by the body's immune system.

However, we cannot simply use blood type as the only basis for judging cancer risk. The occurrence of cancer is the result of multiple factors. We cannot simply use blood type as the only basis for judging cancer risk.

Although we cannot confirm the direct correlation between blood type and cancer risk, there is a certain scientific basis for understanding your blood type and considering other factors comprehensively. At the same time, maintaining good living habits, regular physical examinations and paying attention to changes in the body are important ways to prevent cancer.
