Side effects of levofloxacin infusion

As the saying goes, "All medicines are poisonous", so many medicines have side effects. The side effects of some medicines are even greater than the pharmacological effects of the drugs. Its antibacterial activity is twice that of ofloxacin. So what are the side effects of levofloxacin?

When talking about the side effects of drugs, there is no need to change your face, panic, or even avoid seeing a doctor. Because the side effects of drugs are predictable and can be corrected. So, what are the side effects of using levofloxacin injection?

Levofloxacin injection is the levorotatory form of ofloxacin, and its antibacterial activity is about twice that of ofloxacin. Its main mechanism of action is to inhibit the activity of bacterial DNA gyrase (bacterial topoisomerase II) and hinder bacterial DNA replication. The side effects of levofloxacin injection include:

First: During the medication period, you may experience digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, bloating; neurological symptoms such as insomnia, dizziness, headache; symptoms such as rash, itching, erythema, and redness, itching or phlebitis at the injection site. Transient liver function abnormalities may also occur, such as increased blood transaminase and increased serum total bilirubin. However, the above symptoms will generally disappear when the medication is stopped.

Second: Possible side effects of overdose include: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, heartburn, diarrhea, thirst, stomatitis, staggering, dizziness, headache, general fatigue, numbness, chills, fever, metabolic acidosis, increased blood sugar, increased GOT/GPT/AL-P, leukopenia, increased eosinophils, thrombocytopenia, and hemolytic anemia.

First aid measures and antidotes: (1) Infusion (plus liver-protecting drugs): Sodium bicarbonate injection is given for metabolic acidosis and sodium bicarbonate injection is given for urea alkalinization to increase the excretion of levofloxacin injection by the kidneys; (2) Forced diuresis: Furanophenic acid injection is given; (3) Symptomatic treatment: Diazepam should be repeatedly administered intravenously in case of convulsions; (4) In severe cases: Hemodialysis may be considered.
