The rise of mobile working – infographic

The development of mobile Internet has not only changed the way we communicate and entertain, but is also changing the way we work. New devices and services allow many tasks to be completed remotely and to communicate instantly. The development of technology has given us more freedom of choice, including the choice of where, when and how we work.
Leaving the Office

According to a Cisco survey, the mobile workforce is on the rise. Three-fifths of employees say their productivity is independent of whether they are in the office or not. Globally, 32% of employees rely on more than one mobile device at work.

The most efficient office location

46% of people still feel that the office is most efficient, but more people are starting to choose other locations, and more than 38% of people think that working from home is most efficient.

Employees purchase their own mobile devices

87% of IT managers admit that although their companies provide employees with mobile devices, many employees purchase their own iPhones, Android phones and iPads.

The rise of mobile email

The use of mobile email clients increased by 36% from December 2009 to December 2010. 78% of smartphone users use their phones to send and receive emails, and 30% of mobile phone users use their phones to send and receive emails.

Tablet explosion

Mobile workers have driven the tablet market to boom, with tablet sales expected to reach 65 million units in 2011. 65% of mobile workers use tablets, and 27% use tablets for work.

Tablet users include people of all ages, with young people having the highest proportion, but the proportion of middle-aged and elderly people using tablets is also noteworthy.

The most used functions of tablets are sending and receiving emails and surfing the Internet. The proportion of using tablets to read books and magazines is relatively small, which may be due to the influence of professional e-readers, but as eReaders get closer to tablets, the proportion should increase.
