What to do if your gums swell and bleed during pregnancy

There is a saying among the people that one tooth will break for every child you are pregnant with. In fact, this is related to the fact that women begin to pay less attention to self-care after entering pregnancy. In short, they no longer pay so much attention to oral care. In addition, due to other reasons, symptoms such as swollen and bleeding gums are very likely to occur. So what should you do if your gums are swollen and bleeding during pregnancy? How can pregnant women effectively avoid this problem?

During pregnancy, you should pay attention to oral hygiene. In addition to brushing your teeth every morning and evening and using dental floss to deep clean your gums, you should rinse your mouth thoroughly after each meal to prevent excessive bacterial growth.

1. Adjust your diet reasonably. Pregnant women should eat more eggs, soy products, and fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, or supplement with vitamin C to reduce the permeability of capillaries. This will not only prevent the occurrence of dental diseases, but also benefit the fetal teeth and bone development. In addition, pregnant women with swollen and painful gums should avoid eating spicy, stimulating, or hard foods, and should not eat foods that are too sour, too salty, too sweet, too cold, or too hot. It is not advisable to eat too much hot food, such as beef, mutton, coffee, etc. Smoking and drinking should be prohibited.

2. Apply cold compress. Apply a cold wet towel or ice pack or ice cubes to the cheek where the toothache occurs. 15 minutes each time, 3 to 4 times a day, can relieve pain.

3. If symptoms such as swollen and painful gums and bleeding cannot be relieved, you should go to a periodontal specialist in time to receive formal and systematic periodontal treatment.

4. Brush your teeth every morning and evening. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid hurting your gums. Rinse your mouth after every meal or after eating fruit to remove food debris in your mouth and prevent bacteria from growing in your mouth.

(1) Gargle with salt water: Take 1 spoon of salt and half a cup of boiling water, stir to dissolve the salt. Rinse your mouth frequently after cooling down to relieve the immediate pain. Because salt water can not only remove food residues in the mouth, but also eliminate bacteria and detoxify.

(2) Honey alum gargle recipe: 5 grams of beehive and 3 grams of alum. Boil in water until warm, then gargle with the solution. Take 1 dose 4 times a day until the pain is relieved.
