Is it normal to have no withdrawal bleeding?

Emergency contraceptive pills are very common in our daily life. Some people experience withdrawal bleeding after taking the emergency contraceptive pills, while some women do not bleed after taking the pills. In fact, it is normal not to have withdrawal bleeding after taking the pills. Emergency contraceptive pills contain a large amount of hormones, which can cause menstrual disorders, endocrine disorders and other phenomena. Emergency contraceptive pills cannot be taken for a long time, and generally should not be taken more than 3 times a year.

Emergency contraceptive pills refer to contraceptive methods used to prevent pregnancy within a period of time after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. Drug contraception is the most commonly used contraceptive method.

Women can consider taking emergency contraceptive drugs if they suffer accidental injuries or have unprotected sex for other reasons, or if contraception fails, such as condom breakage, slippage, or incorrect calculation of the safe period. The drugs are effective within 72 hours after intercourse. If they have sex again while taking the drugs, the time must be recalculated.

A commonly used type of emergency contraceptive is a single progestin, the ingredient of which is levonorgestrel, which is an over-the-counter drug. This type of 72-hour emergency contraceptive pill is represented by Xinsnuo Pills and Yuting. The earlier emergency contraceptive pills are taken, the more effective they are in preventing pregnancy. No need to fast before or after taking it.

Another type of emergency contraceptive pill is antiprogestin. The most commonly used one is Houdingnuo. In addition, there are Simian tablets, Biyun capsules, Huadian tablets, etc. The active ingredient is mifepristone, and they are all prescription drugs.

Only one tablet of this medicine needs to be taken, and fasting is required for 2 hours before and after taking the medicine. The chance of pregnancy after taking the medicine can be reduced to 1.4%. There are few side effects, but the side effects are large. Some people experience changes in their menstrual periods. If vomiting occurs within two hours after taking the medicine, if the medicine is vomited out, you need to take the same dose of medicine once.

Side effects of emergency contraception

Due to the drug effects of emergency contraceptive pills, side effects such as nausea, vomiting, irregular uterine bleeding, and menstrual changes may occur. These side effects may be relieved after taking the medicine for a period of time. If the symptoms do not persist for a long time, you should stop taking the medicine and seek medical attention.

1. Nausea: Nausea is the most common side effect, accounting for about 50%; levonorgestrel is second, accounting for about 20%; and mifepristone is the lowest, accounting for about 6%-7%. Nausea usually lasts no longer than 24 hours.

2. Vomiting: About 20% of women who use the Yuzpe method for emergency contraception experience vomiting; about 5% for levonorgestrel; and about 1% for mifepristone. If you vomit within 1 hour after taking the emergency contraceptive pill, you should take another dose as soon as possible.

3. Irregular uterine bleeding: Some women will have some spotting after taking the medicine. Generally, no treatment is required. You should consult before taking the medicine.

4. Changes in ovulation period: Taking emergency contraceptive pills will affect the menstrual cycle, so there will be some obstacles in calculating the safe period in the following months.

5. Menstrual changes: If menstruation is delayed for one week, a urine pregnancy test should be done to determine whether emergency contraception has failed.

6. Others: breast tenderness, headache, dizziness, fatigue, etc. These symptoms are generally mild and last no more than 24 hours. Severe breast pain and headache can be treated with aspirin or other painkillers.
