Brown discharge during pregnancy

Brown discharge during pregnancy

We all know that various changes will occur in a woman's body after she becomes pregnant, so if there are certain changes in a woman's body, it may be a normal phenomenon. However, some women find that they have some brown secretions after they become pregnant. This brown secretion means that the fetus may be miscarried. So what should a woman do if she has brown secretions when she is pregnant?

When a woman has brown discharge after pregnancy, the main reasons for this phenomenon are as follows:

1. Implantation bleeding

It’s a fact that one in four pregnant women will experience light vaginal bleeding (also known as implantation bleeding) during the first week of pregnancy. At this time, brown discharge is generally considered normal. However, if the amount of bleeding increases, you need to tell your doctor immediately.

2. Infection

Infection or inflammation is a common cause of brown discharge in the female reproductive system. In most gynecological diseases, such as cervical erosion, brown discharge is a common symptom.

3. Ectopic pregnancy

Ectopic pregnancy is another common cause of brown vaginal discharge. Normally, the embryo implants in the uterus, but an ectopic pregnancy means that the embryo implants in the fallopian tube, which is a serious condition that can be life-threatening. Some associated symptoms are cramping and pain in the abdomen. If we experience severe vaginal bleeding then it is important to seek medical attention immediately.

4. Other reasons

In early pregnancy, a sudden increase in hormone levels and blood flow can make the skin of the cervix sensitive. Infection of the vagina or cervix can cause brown discharge.

The growth of cervical polyps often presents with bleeding. The growth of uterine fibroids. Von Willebrand disease or other blood disorders can cause this brown discharge in pregnant women.

5. When should you worry about brown discharge?

If the brown discharge is not implantation bleeding, you need to get diagnosed right away. If accompanied by fainting, fever, abdominal pain, cramps, and dizziness, seek medical attention immediately as they may indicate a serious condition. Treatment of brown discharge depends on the cause and the duration of pregnancy. If brown discharge persists for some time, we observe a change in color or an increase in discharge, or even noticeable cramping and pain, seek medical help immediately or contact our doctor.
