Generally speaking, night is the time for people to rest, but during this time many people are also tortured by some adverse physical symptoms. For example, some female friends feel an inexplicable heat in their legs every night, which cannot be relieved even if they are bare-legged. This means that the heat in the legs has nothing to do with temperature, but may be caused by disease. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, this is mostly a manifestation of yin deficiency and fever. So, what should women do if their thighs get hot at night? 1. Bone steaming and hot flashes (1) Symptoms Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, other chronic wasting diseases and other symptoms such as yin deficiency, internal heat, and bone steaming due to consumptive disease may experience hot flashes in the afternoon or fever at night, hot palms and soles, irritability, insomnia and frequent dreams, night sweats, dry mouth and throat, red tongue or with cracks, little or no coating on the tongue, and a thin and rapid pulse. (2) The treatment is to clear away heat from the body and relieve bone steaming. (3) Treatment with modifications of the main prescription Qinggu San. (4) Prescription: Bupleurum chinense, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Picrorhizoma Coptidis, Cortex Lycii, Artemisia annua, Gentiana macrophylla, Carapace of Turtle Shell, and Licorice. For blood deficiency, add angelica, rehmannia, white peony root, and raw rehmannia; for cough, add platycodon, schisandra, donkey-hide gelatin (melted), and ophiopogon. 2. Syndrome of internal pathogenic heat (1) Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, anemia, or other chronic wasting diseases with symptoms of yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire may experience night heat and morning coolness, fever subsides without sweating, the patient can eat but is thin, has a red tongue with little coating, and a rapid pulse. (2) The treatment principle is to nourish Yin and clear heat. (3) Treatment with modifications to the main prescription Qinghao Biejia Decoction. (4) Prescription: Artemisia annua, turtle shell, Rehmannia glutinosa, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, and Cortex Moutan. For those with severe night sweats, remove the Artemisia annua and add oyster and floating wheat to consolidate the exterior and reduce sweating; for those with severe yin deficiency, add Scrophularia ningpoensis, Rehmannia root, and processed Polygonum multiflorum to nourish yin; for those with insomnia, add cypress seed, spiny jujube seed, and Polygonum multiflorum to nourish the heart and calm the mind; for those with qi deficiency, add Pseudostellaria chinensis, Ophiopogon japonicus, and Schisandra chinensis to replenish qi and nourish yin. 3. Yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire syndrome (1) Symptoms include hot flashes due to bone steaming, night sweats and spermatorrhea, cough and hemoptysis, irritability, pain and heat in the feet and knees, or thirst and hunger, red tongue with little coating, and a rapid and strong pulse on the radial side. (2) Treatment principle: nourish yin and reduce fire. (3) Main prescription: Dabuyin Pills. (4) Prescription: Rehmannia root (steamed with wine), Anemarrhena asphodeloides (soaked in wine and fried), Phellodendron chinense (fried until brown), and Tortoise shell (roasted with butter). For hemoptysis and hematemesis, add Houttuynia cordata, Agrimoniae, and Platycladus orientalis leaves; for night sweats, add glutinous rice root, floating wheat, and calcined oyster. 4. Yin deficiency fever (1) Symptoms include vomiting blood, nosebleed, or excessive sweating after malaria or typhoid fever, which leads to yin deficiency and loss of body fluid, constant thirst, persistent hot flashes, and weak pulse. (2) Treatment principles: nourishing yin, clearing heat, moistening the lungs, relieving cough, and stopping bleeding. (3) The main prescription is Yi Yin Jian. (4) Prescription: Radix Rehmanniae, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Ophiopogonis, Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, and Radix Glycyrrhizae. If the patient has excessive fire and is irritable, add real tortoise shell and take it; if the patient has qi deficiency, use ginseng occasionally; if the patient has heart deficiency, insomnia and excessive sweating, add jujube seeds and angelica; if the patient has excessive sweating and is irritable, add Schisandra chinensis, or add Chinese yam and Cornus officinalis; if the patient has slight fire, add Ligustrum lucidum; if the false fire floats up, or causes vomiting of blood, or persistent epistaxis, add Alisma orientalis, madder root, or add Dipsacus asper. 5. Blood deficiency and stagnation syndrome (1) Symptoms include palpitations, insomnia, dizziness, pale complexion, irregular menstruation, scanty menstruation or amenorrhea in women, pale tongue, thin and stringy or fine and astringent pulse. (2) The treatment principle is to nourish and harmonize blood, regulate menstruation and remove blood stasis. (3) Main prescription: Siwu Decoction. (4) The prescription consists of equal parts of white peony root, Chinese angelica root, Rehmannia root and Ligusticum chuanxiong. |
