How long does it take to get pregnant after a caesarean section?

Now our country has opened up the two-child policy, which is very good news for many families. After all, the pressure on only children is too great, and many couples also like to have an extra baby to accompany them. So, if a woman chooses to have a caesarean section for her first child, it will take some time for her to recover after delivery. If she wants to have a second child, how long will it take before she can get pregnant?

How long after a cesarean section can I get pregnant again?

How long does it take before you can get pregnant again after a cesarean section? Some experts suggest that it is best to wait 2 years or even longer after a cesarean section to allow the uterus to recover before getting pregnant again. Professor Li Weijing, director of the Department of Fetal Medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, said in his blog that if the cesarean section is done well, there is no infection after the operation, and the mother recovers well, conservatively speaking, she can become pregnant again in about a year, and there is no need to wait for two years or longer. Professor Li Weijing explained that a large sample analysis article showed that the incidence of uterine rupture in pregnancy after cesarean section has nothing to do with the length of time after surgery. That is to say, there is no difference in the probability of uterine rupture in pregnancy within 1 year after surgery and in pregnancy 2 years later.

Don't hastily terminate pregnancy if you get pregnant unexpectedly after cesarean section

It is generally recommended to wait one year after a cesarean section before getting pregnant. However, if you unexpectedly become pregnant within less than a year and you really want a child, Professor Li Weijing recommends that you continue the pregnancy under close monitoring rather than terminating it hastily. Professor Li Weijing said that among the cases she had come across, there was a woman who became pregnant three months after a cesarean section and later gave birth successfully.

For older mothers, if they have to wait 2-3 years after surgery before getting pregnant again, the chance of having a malformed baby will increase significantly during the waiting period. Rather than risking giving birth to a fool, it is better to get pregnant early and give birth to a healthy child under the supervision of a doctor.
