What are the consequences of not stopping lochia?

Retention of lochia in women is a common problem after childbirth. Naturally, it causes great harm to women. Sometimes it may even cause sepsis or other hemorrhagic shock, threatening the life and health of the mother. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to understand the cause and then correctly treat it. It also introduces the common causes of retention of lochia in women.

1. Disease Hazards

Hazard 1

Postpartum lochia that is not completely discharged may lead to local and systemic infection, and in severe cases, sepsis may occur.

Hazard 2

Improper lochia can easily induce late postpartum hemorrhage or even massive hemorrhage and shock, endangering the life of the mother.

Hazard 3

The residual lochia caused by cesarean section can easily cause wound infection, rupture or poor healing, and even require hysterectomy.

2. Treatment Methods

After childbirth, the menstrual blood is damaged, the body is weak and insufficient, and cannot be restrained, or the bad blood is not completely discharged, then the good blood will be difficult to calm down, and will flow out together and will not stop for a long time. ——《The Heart Method of Pregnancy and Childbirth》

1. Qi deficiency: The body is qi-deficient and the vital energy is insufficient. In addition, the patient loses blood and consumes qi during childbirth, or works too hard after childbirth, which damages the spleen, causing qi deficiency and sinking, and the Chong and Ren meridians become loose and unable to retain blood, resulting in continuous lochia.

2. Heat in the blood: Yin deficiency in the body, coupled with blood loss during childbirth, depletion of Yin fluid, internal heat caused by Yin deficiency, or excessive consumption of spicy, warm and dry foods after childbirth, or exposure to heat evil, or liver depression turning into heat, heat disturbing Chong and Ren meridians, forcing blood downward, resulting in unclean lochia.

3. Blood stasis: After childbirth, the placenta is empty, and the cold evil enters the placenta, causing the blood to become cold and coagulate; or due to emotional injury, the blood becomes stagnant; or due to residual blood stasis after childbirth, the placenta and fetal membrane remain as blood stasis, causing internal obstruction and difficulty in the flow of new blood, which cannot return to the meridians, resulting in unclean lochia.
