Why does leucorrhea turn yellow and look like snot?

The normal leucorrhea secreted by women can lubricate and protect the vagina, so caring for the health of women's private parts is very important. In life, most women have experienced abnormal leucorrhea. It is very common that the leucorrhea is yellow and as sticky as snot. So, what causes yellow leucorrhea that looks like mucus? How to prevent abnormal leucorrhea? Let's take a look below.

Why does leucorrhea turn yellow?

1. Yellow watery leucorrhea is mostly caused by necrosis of diseased tissue and is common in submucosal uterine fibroids, cervical cancer, fallopian tube cancer, etc.

2. Trichomonas vaginitis is the most common vaginitis, caused by infection with Trichomonas vaginalis. Trichomonas vaginalis is an anaerobic parasitic protozoan that often parasitizes the urogenital tract. In women, it mainly exists in the vagina, but also in the urethra, paraurethral glands, bladder and other parts. In men, it often parasitizes in the urethra, prostate and other parts.

3. Senile vaginitis is more common in elderly women who have been postmenopausal for many years. After menopause, ovarian function declines, endogenous estrogen is deficient, genitals atrophy, vaginal epithelium becomes thinner, local resistance is weakened, pathogenic bacteria can easily multiply and cause inflammation. The important symptom of senile vaginitis is increased leucorrhea, often accompanied by a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen and vagina and a burning sensation in the vagina. The typical leucorrhea is light yellow, watery or purulent, has a foul odor, and is often mixed with a small amount of blood.

4. Candidal vaginitis is one of the common vaginitis, often caused by Candida albicans infection, and is more common in pregnant women and diabetic patients. Long-term use of antibiotics can cause imbalance of normal vaginal flora, which is conducive to the growth and reproduction of fungi and makes people more susceptible to this disease. Patients taking corticosteroids, immunosuppressants and autoimmune diseases are prone to this disease. Patients with vitamin B6 deficiency and chronic wasting diseases are prone to yellow leucorrhea.

Young women wearing tight nylon pants can increase the humidity and temperature of the perineum, which is conducive to the growth and reproduction of mold. The main symptoms of candidal vaginitis are increased leucorrhea and vulvar itching, often accompanied by local burning sensation. Typical leucorrhea is curd-like (tofu-like) or slightly yellow flakes, has a slight odor, and adheres tightly to the vaginal mucosa.

How can women prevent abnormal leucorrhea?

1. Don’t use sanitary pads on weekdays

Some female friends are worried that leucorrhea will stain their underwear or are too lazy to wash their underwear, so they always use sanitary pads. This practice is not advisable. When you are not menstruating, try not to use sanitary pads. Wash your vulva with clean water and change your underwear every night. In addition, do not use various medicinal liquids to clean the vagina, as this will damage the internal environment of the vagina and cause vaginitis.

2. Choose cotton underwear

To prevent abnormal leucorrhea, female friends should try to choose cotton underwear and avoid wearing nylon underwear, because cotton underwear can keep the vulva dry and ventilated.

3. Avoid frequent sexual intercourse

Do not have frequent sexual intercourse, as frequent sexual intercourse may increase the chance of bacterial infection. Especially during menstruation, pregnancy and postpartum period, sexual intercourse should be prohibited. You should keep your genitals clean at ordinary times, avoid taking public baths, and have special hygiene products.
