What happens when the cervical mucus plug falls off? Let’s take a look

Cervical mucus is a liquid secreted by cervical cells. The amount of secretion varies depending on the woman's own physical condition and menstrual volume. The shedding of the cervical mucus plug is an abnormal phenomenon. This is a hint from the body to people. Female friends should pay attention to it and receive treatment in time to recover their health as soon as possible.

1. Cervical mucus

Cervical mucus is secreted by cervical cells. In the early stages of the menstrual cycle, the amount of secretion is small and it looks turbid and sticky. The closer to ovulation, the thinner and more transparent the cervical mucus becomes, and the amount of secretion usually increases (but this is not always the case). During ovulation, cervical mucus is at its thinnest and most elastic (can be easily stretched), and looks a lot like the white of a raw egg.

Under normal physiological conditions, a small amount of secretions will be produced in the female vagina. But as your menstrual cycle changes, the smell and color of your discharge will also change. For example, vaginal discharge may increase slightly during ovulation, breastfeeding, or when you are sexually aroused.

There is no need to panic about these changes. However, if the color, smell, and properties are obviously different from before, especially if accompanied by vulvar itching and burning sensation, you should be alert.

2. Causes of abnormal cervical mucus

Abnormalities in the physical and chemical properties of cervical mucus are usually related to endocrine imbalance, abnormalities of reproductive organs or immune factors, such as retroflexed or retroflexed uterus, cervical stenosis, reproductive tract prolapse, cervical resection, benign tumors, congenital abnormalities, etc. If a woman's cervical mucus has abnormal physical and chemical indicators, this can cause pregnancy problems.

3. Three symptoms of abnormal cervical mucus:

1. Anti-sperm antibodies are present in cervical mucus

The presence of antisperm antibodies is one of the causes of cervical infertility. Cervical tissue can synthesize some immunoglobulins. When the antibodies in the mucus reach a certain concentration, they can cause sperm to agglutinate and brake. When antibodies are present in the cervical mucus or on the surface of sperm, sperm lose the ability to penetrate the cervical mucus and move, and instead exhibit oscillation locally.

2. Too little cervical mucus secretion

Insufficient cervical mucus secretion is one of the causes of cervical infertility. Generally, if the amount of cervical mucus during ovulation is less than 0.03 ml, it can be diagnosed as insufficient secretion.

3. Excessive cervical mucus secretion

Excessive cervical mucus secretion can also cause cervical infertility. Usually, if the amount of cervical mucus measured once during the ovulation period is greater than or equal to 0.71ml, or the amount of colorless and transparent cervical mucus is greater than 0.41ml, for more than 3 consecutive days, it can be diagnosed as excessive mucus secretion. The main causes of excessive cervical mucus secretion include chronic cervicitis, high estrogen levels, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc.
