Is it difficult to get pregnant with a double uterus? Do you know these questions about the uterus?

Speaking of twin uterus, I believe many people are unfamiliar with this term. Twin uterus is a relatively rare disease in life. Many people know that the uterus is exclusive to women. The uterus is very important to women and is even related to women’s normal fertility. Twin uterus can cause some harm to the body and have a certain impact on fertility.

Most people would think that with an extra uterus, the possibility of pregnancy would be greater, right? However, this is not the case! Women with a double uterus have a lower chance of getting pregnant than normal people. Uterus didelphys is one of many types of birth defects that originates from the paramesonephric duct during the embryonic period. Under normal circumstances, the head segments of the paramesonephric ducts on both sides develop into the fallopian tubes on both sides, and the middle segments and tail ends on both sides begin to merge to form the upper segment of the uterus and vagina. This process is usually completed by 12 weeks of pregnancy. If the two side mesonephric ducts are not completely fused, they will each develop into two uteruses and two cervixes, and the vagina will be completely separated. The left and right uteruses will each have a single fallopian tube and ovary, that is, a double uterus.

Women with twin uterus are extremely rare, with only a few in a thousand chances. Generally, there are no conscious symptoms, so it is not easy to detect. Most women only discover that they have a double uterus accidentally during abortion, prenatal check-up or even delivery. The chances of conceiving with a twin uterus are very small, miscarriage is easy after conception, and the pregnancy process is also very difficult. According to data, the incidence of miscarriage in women with double uterus is 20%-40%, the incidence of premature birth is 10%-33%, and the incidence of abnormal fetal position is as high as 25%-37%. For women with double uterus, it is important to pay attention to regular check-ups and fetal protection after pregnancy. Generally, a double uterus does not require surgery. However, if the condition seriously affects conception, the doctor will consider correction through hysterectomy or uterine fusion at his discretion.

Pregnancy with twin uterus is prone to miscarriage and premature birth

Compared with the difficulty of getting pregnant, women with twin uterus are also prone to miscarriage after pregnancy. Because there are two uteruses, the blood supply of each uterus is relatively less than that of a normal uterus, and the endometrium and myometrium are not well developed. Generally speaking, in women with double uterus, one uterus functions more normally while the other one functions less well. In a complete double uterus, the functions of the two uteruses are not much different, so the situation is relatively optimistic. If the pregnancy is in a rudimentary uterine horn and is not diagnosed promptly in the early stages, the consequences can be very serious. Rudimentary uterine horn pregnancy is prone to uterine rupture around 3 months of pregnancy. At this time, not only the fetus is in danger, but even the pregnant woman will face life-threatening danger. Therefore, married women of childbearing age with a history of amenorrhea should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. If it is confirmed that the conception occurs in a normally developed uterus, then there is no major problem. However, if the conception occurs in a rudimentary horn of the uterus, surgery should be performed as soon as possible to remove the rudimentary horn.

At the same time, because the blood supply to the endometrium of a double uterus is poor and the endometrium and myometrium are underdeveloped, women with a double uterus are prone to premature birth after 7 months of pregnancy. Therefore, women with Gemini should pay more attention to rest and try to extend their gestational age. During childbirth, the unpregnant uterus will hinder the descent of the fetal presenting part and cause obstruction. At the same time, the uterine contraction is not strong enough and the coordination is poor, which affects the smooth delivery of the fetus. Many women with double uterus can only undergo caesarean section in the end.
