Will high prolactin cause miscarriage? Be careful during pregnancy

High prolactin can cause female infertility, but the chance of miscarriage after pregnancy is very small. On the contrary, miscarriage caused by other factors should be taken seriously. During pregnancy, you should pay attention to your diet, get more rest, avoid sexual intercourse, and maintain a good mood.

1. High prolactin mainly affects normal conception , but it usually has no effect on pregnancy. There is a possibility of miscarriage, but it is very small, especially a slight increase generally does not cause miscarriage. The prolactin values before and after pregnancy are different. After pregnancy, prolactin will increase for the needs of breastfeeding, promoting further development and proliferation of the mammary gland in preparation for breastfeeding. This is a physiological process.

2. There are many reasons that can cause miscarriage , and miscarriage is not likely to occur simply because of increased prolactin. However, it requires close observation, regular pregnancy checkups, a regular lifestyle, adequate rest, and comprehensive nutrition. Prolactin, also known as prolactin, is one of the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. Women secrete prolactin vigorously in the late pregnancy and lactation period to promote breast development and lactation. The highest level of prolactin in the serum of non-pregnant women generally does not exceed 20 ng/ml.

3. If the prolactin level in the blood is too high , it is called hyperprolactinemia. These people often have symptoms such as breast tenderness, galactorrhea, infrequent menstruation or even amenorrhea. Therefore, it is sometimes called galactorrhea-amenorrhea syndrome. Among patients with hyperprolactinemia, about 1/4 are caused by pituitary tumors, and some may be caused by hypothalamic and pituitary dysfunction, hypothyroidism, renal insufficiency, malignant tumors in other parts of the body, chest wall injury and drug effects. When there is too much prolactin in the body, it can inhibit the secretion of pituitary gonadotropin and directly affect the synthesis of ovarian sex hormones, resulting in low serum estrogen levels, thereby causing ovarian dysfunction, reduced ovulation, or anovulation and galactorrhea, or even amenorrhea.
