Will I be infertile after curettage?

Nowadays, more and more women are pregnant before getting married, so they often choose some special methods to end the pregnancy. Curettage is also relatively common in current artificial abortion operations, but it is likely to damage the uterus. So will curettage cause infertility?

The unlimited availability of painless abortions has freed many women from the concerns about the pain of traditional abortions. Therefore, many women do not worry about having painless abortions, believing that painless abortions are harmless. However, compared with traditional abortion techniques, painless abortions only have the step of intravenous anesthesia, and the harm to the body still exists.

If the doctor a woman chooses does not have adequate skills, it is easy for him to make misjudgments during the operation. If the scraping is not clean enough, a second curettage will be required, increasing the patient's pain. If the scraping is too deep, the entire endometrium may be scraped off over time, which can make it difficult for the endometrium to grow or cause intrauterine adhesions.

If a woman damages her cervix during a curettage, it can easily cause uterine cavity infection, endometritis, uterine polyps, fallopian tube blockage, and endometriosis. These can affect sperm activity and prevent the formation of a fertilized egg. Once the endometrium is damaged, it will be difficult for the fertilized egg to implant, and even if it does implant, it will lead to miscarriage.

Although current medical technology can treat infertility caused by curettage, the results are often not very ideal. If sick women use in vitro fertilization, the success rate is only 40%. Moreover, some patients have damaged endometrium, and may experience miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy after successful in vitro fertilization.

Infertility experts point out that the more times a woman has an abortion, the greater the possibility of scratching the uterus, and the higher the chance of infertility. In addition, abortion can also cause gynecological inflammation, irregular menstruation, uterine perforation and other sequelae. Therefore, women must pay attention to infertility in their daily lives and never regard abortion as a contraceptive tool.
