What are the dangers of having mastitis?

The main symptoms of mastitis include breast pain, lumps, fever, etc., which have a great impact on women's normal breastfeeding. If not treated in time, it will also cause other breast diseases and even concentrated sepsis.

In recent years, many female friends have been affected by environmental pollution, work and life factors, resulting in a high incidence of mastitis. Understanding its harm is very helpful in reducing the occurrence of mastitis.

Mastitis refers to an acute suppurative infection of the breast, which is more common in women during lactation, especially primiparas. The harm of mastitis is very great. At the beginning, the breasts will be swollen and painful, the lumps will be tender, the surface will be red and swollen, and there will be fever. If the disease continues to develop, the symptoms will worsen and the breasts will have throbbing pain.

Patients with severe mastitis may have high fever, chills, obvious breast swelling and pain, local skin redness and swelling, nodules and tenderness, and enlarged and tender lymph nodes in the armpit on the affected side. The inflammation softens within a few days, forming a breast abscess with a sense of fluctuation. The skin deep in the abscess is red and the fluctuation is not obvious. After the ulcer breaks and pus is discharged, the pus will drain smoothly, and the swelling and pain will be reduced and the disease will heal. Acute mastitis is often accompanied by enlarged and tender axillary lymph nodes on the affected side; the total white blood cell count and neutrophil count increase.

If mastitis is not treated properly, the harm will be greater. The abscess may penetrate the loose connective tissue in front of the pectoralis major fascia, forming a retromammary abscess; or milk may overflow from the wound and form milk leakage; in severe cases, sepsis may occur.
