Why does nausea and vomiting occur during pregnancy? This is the truth!

Many women will experience obvious vomiting symptoms after pregnancy. Everyone knows that this is a normal phenomenon, but few people have explored the reasons behind it. Women may experience nausea and vomiting at different stages of pregnancy, and the reasons are also different.

1. In early pregnancy, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels rise rapidly. It's not known whether hCG directly causes nausea, but the timing is very consistent: when nausea is worst, hCG levels are also highest.

A rapid rise in levels of another hormone, estrogen, in early pregnancy is also thought to be a major cause of morning sickness, although other hormones may also play a role.

2. The sense of smell and sensitivity to odors increases during pregnancy. For example, it is not uncommon for a newly pregnant woman to smell sausages being fried several rooms away and to have an immediate nauseous reaction. This sensitivity may also be caused by increased estrogen levels.

3. The stomach and intestines become fragile. The gastrointestinal tract of some expectant mothers is more sensitive to various changes in early pregnancy, so they are more likely to feel uncomfortable.

You may have heard that morning sickness may be caused by a lack of B vitamins in the body. While many pregnant women do experience some relief from nausea after taking vitamin B6 supplements, this does not mean they are deficient in the vitamin. In fact, at least one study showed no significant difference in vitamin B6 levels between expectant mothers who experienced morning sickness and those who did not.

Until now, it has been unclear why vitamin B6 may help relieve morning sickness. However, there is some evidence that taking a multivitamin during conception and early pregnancy can help prevent severe morning sickness, but the reasons for this are still unclear.
