What to do if you have postpartum episiotomy constipation? Treat constipation in time

Almost every woman will experience constipation after giving birth, especially those with episiotomy wounds. The constipation must be treated as soon as possible so that the wound can recover as soon as possible. Appropriate exercise should be done for postpartum constipation, and dietary adjustment is the most effective, eating more vegetables and fruits.

1. Causes of postpartum constipation

After childbirth, the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles relax, abdominal pressure decreases, and the mother is weak and cannot rely on abdominal pressure to assist defecation. In addition, the mother stays in bed all day, which reduces her activity, weakens her intestinal motility, and makes it difficult for her to defecate. Secondly, eating less during delivery, lack of crude fiber in the postpartum diet, and fear of pain in the perineal wound can also cause constipation.

2. What to do if you have postpartum constipation? Do some appropriate activities

After delivery, the mother should turn over frequently and exercise appropriately. Generally, the mother can sit up 6-8 hours after a normal delivery, or change her sleeping position more often, and massage around the navel in a clockwise direction with her hands; on the second day, she should get up and walk back and forth in the room without feeling tired. For those who have cesarean section without complications, they can sit up on the second day after delivery, and after 3-5 days, they can get out of bed and walk around depending on their recovery. It is beneficial to intestinal peristalsis and lochia discharge.

3. Adjust your diet 1. Drink a glass of honey water every morning. Drink 100 ml of light salt water before going to bed to increase moisture in the digestive tract, promote intestinal peristalsis, and facilitate bowel movements. You can drink two cups of yogurt every day. 2. Add gas-producing foods: They promote intestinal peristalsis and facilitate defecation; such as onions, radishes, garlic sprouts, etc. 3. Eating fruits rich in pectin, such as apples, bananas, pears, citrus fruits, etc., can soften stools and relieve symptoms. 4. Eat more foods rich in fiber, such as sweet potatoes, whole grains, celery and other green leafy vegetables.

4. Effective pelvic floor exercises

Perform anal contraction exercises every night to mainly exercise the levator ani muscles and pelvic floor muscles, and promote blood circulation in the anus. If you persist for a period of time, the effectiveness of constipation treatment can reach 70%. Those who give birth naturally can start from the second day after delivery. The specific method is: lift the anus upwards as if you are holding back a bowel movement, then relax, then lift it up again, lift and release, repeat this process. Continue contracting for about 10 seconds, then relax for 10 seconds, and repeat 15 times.

It is generally not recommended to take topical medications after childbirth to avoid affecting the baby through breast milk. If constipation is severe and cannot be relieved through self-regulation, you can insert a suppository or glycerin into the anus under the guidance of a doctor for local lubrication and bowel movement.

5. Simple treatment: Ingredients for sesame and walnut paste : 60 grams each of black sesame, walnut kernels and honey. Method: Crush sesame seeds and walnut kernels, add water and cook, then add honey and take it twice a day. Efficacy: Lubricates the intestines and facilitates bowel movements. Sweet potato porridge ingredients: 500 grams of sweet potatoes. Method: Peel the sweet potato, cut into pieces, put in a pot, add water, cook until soft, then add a small amount of sugar to season, and eat before going to bed. Efficacy: Nourishes the spleen and replenishes Qi, relaxes the intestines and promotes bowel movements.

6. Abdominal massage: Lie on your back on the bed, bend your knees, rub your hands to warm them up, then place your left hand flat on your navel and your right hand on the back of your left hand. Use the navel as the center and massage in a clockwise direction.
