What to do if the scar itches after cesarean section

After a caesarean section, a scar will be left on the mother's belly. Some mothers will experience itching on the scar, which is very troublesome. If the scar is itchy after a cesarean section, you can use dexamethasone to relieve the itching, or wash it with clean water.

1. Avoid sunlight to prevent ultraviolet stimulation and pigmentation.

2. Apply some topical medications such as dexamethasone, triamcinolone solniferum, etc. to relieve itching.

3. Do not remove the scab on the incision too early after surgery. Removing the scab too early and forcefully will take away the epidermal cells that are still in the repair stage, or even tear off the dermal tissue, and stimulate itching of the wound.

4. Improve your diet and eat more fruits, lean meat, eggs, pork skin and other foods rich in vitamins C, E and essential amino acids. These foods can promote blood circulation and improve epidermal metabolism. Don't eat spicy foods such as onions, garlic, and peppers.

Causes of itchy and painful cesarean section scars

The hyperplasia period of cesarean section scar lasts about three months to half a year. The proliferation of fibrous tissue gradually stops, the color turns dark brown, and the scar gradually becomes flat and soft. At this time, the scar will feel painful and itchy, especially the irritation is the most obvious. Especially when the weather changes or when you sweat a lot, you often feel the irritation to the extent that you have to scratch the scar epidermis and bleed.

The human body sweats. Sweat is composed of salt (sodium chloride, potassium chloride), water, urea and protein. When you sweat, the scars become soaked with sweat. The salt in the sweat will stimulate the nerve endings inside the scars, causing itching and pain. When the weather changes, the changes in dryness and wetness and temperature difference are much stronger than usual. The nerve endings in the scar can sensitively detect such changes and convey them to people in the form of pain and itching.
