Polycystic ovary syndrome symptoms and causes explained

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common disease among women, which has a great impact on women’s health and life. If not treated in time, it may also lead to infertility, so female friends must pay attention. So what are the specific symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome?

Symptoms of PCOS

1. Menstrual disorders:

After menarche, oligomenorrhea, secondary amenorrhea and anovulatory functional uterine bleeding occur.

2. Hairy:

Abundant body hair, pubic hair with male distribution, oily skin and acne are caused by the accumulation of androgens.

3. Obesity:

About half of the patients have this symptom, which is related to excess androgen, increased proportion of unbound testosterone and long-term stimulation of estrogen.

4. Infertility:

Infertility after marriage is mainly caused by menstrual disorders and anovulation.

Causes of PCOS

1. Family genetic factors:

Based on the high degree of familial clustering of polycystic ovary syndrome, genetic factors are a major factor in its etiology. Most cases of PCOS are related to genetic abnormalities, and a few cases of PCOS are related to chromosomal abnormalities. This cause of the disease is difficult to avoid, and the only way is early detection and early treatment.

2. Long-term mental stress, drug and disease effects:

Due to mental stress, drugs and certain diseases, the regulatory function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis is abnormal, resulting in excessive production of androgens by ovarian stroma and theca cells. High androgens in the ovaries inhibit the maturation of follicles, resulting in a series of symptoms of PCOS such as amenorrhea and hirsutism.

3. Abnormal adrenal function:

50% of patients with PCOS have abnormal adrenal cortex function, which is often due to hyperfunction of the adrenal cortex, leading to excessive secretion of androgen and symptoms such as anovulation. Diseases that cause abnormal adrenal cortex function mainly include adrenal tumors, adrenal cortical hyperplasia, etc.
