What is the difference between female adnexitis and pelvic inflammatory disease?

Inflammatory diseases in women are inevitable because the female reproductive organs are special and therefore more susceptible to inflammatory infections, such as pelvic inflammatory disease and adnexitis. Although these are minor inflammatory diseases of the body, many women are worried about vaginal itching and abnormal leucorrhea when they occur. However, many people do not know the difference between female adnexitis and pelvic inflammatory disease, so when they feel unwell, they always make wrong diagnoses and use the wrong medicines, which can be quite harmful.

Pelvic inflammatory disease refers to inflammation of the female upper reproductive tract and its surrounding tissues, mainly including endometritis, salpingitis, tubo-ovarian abscess, and pelvic peritonitis. Inflammation can be limited to one part or affect several parts at the same time. The more common ones are salpingitis and salpingo-oophoritis. Pelvic inflammatory disease mostly occurs in sexually active, menstruating women. It rarely occurs in women before menarche, after menopause or unmarried people. If pelvic inflammatory disease occurs, it is often the spread of inflammation to adjacent organs. According to its disease course and clinical manifestations, it can be divided into acute and chronic.

Adnexitis is a common disease caused by pathogenic microorganisms invading the reproductive organs and causing infection of the fallopian tubes and ovaries. Pelvic inflammatory disease refers to inflammation of the female internal reproductive organs, the surrounding connective tissue, and the pelvic peritoneum. The pain of adnexitis is mainly located on both sides of the lower abdomen, and there may also be soreness in the waist. Sometimes it is accompanied by increased leucorrhea and irregular menstruation.

Inside the pelvic cavity, the uterus is an important contributor to women, shouldering the responsibility of giving birth to the next generation. In fact, in reproductive anatomy, the pelvic cavity contains the uterus, and the fallopian tubes and ovaries around the uterus are called uterine appendages. Strictly speaking, adnexitis refers to inflammation of the fallopian tubes and ovaries. However, fallopian tube and oophoritis are often accompanied by parauterine connective tissue inflammation.

The difference between female adnexitis and pelvic inflammatory disease is not only the difference in symptoms, but also the difference in diagnosis during examination. Therefore, when you have an inflammatory disease in your body, don't panic and don't take medicine on your own. You should first understand what kind of inflammation you have and then take medicine under scientific guidance. Changing underwear frequently and keeping the genitals clean and hygienic can effectively prevent inflammatory diseases.
