Which is more accurate, cervical biopsy or HPV

In recent years, the incidence of cervical cancer has increased, ranking second among women's malignant tumors, second only to breast cancer, and is one of the most common gynecological malignant tumors. According to oncology experts, early screening can promptly treat cervical precancerous lesions and cervical cancer, which is beneficial to improving quality of life and increasing life span.

Who needs to be screened for cervical cancer? It is recommended that women over the age of 21 who have been married for more than 3 years, as well as women with multiple sexual partners, those who started having sex too early, and those with weak immune systems, should actively undergo cervical cancer screening.

In clinical medicine, common methods for screening cervical cancer include liquid chromatography cytology (TCT), cervical puncture biopsy, HPV testing, etc. Maybe many people have already understood the TCT inspection method, so I won’t explain it in detail here. Today, the editor of the web "Little Bunny Talks about Health" invites everyone to learn about the two testing methods: cervical puncture biopsy and HPV test.

The so-called cervical puncture biopsy means that the gynecologist clamps a small piece of tissue (flesh) at the abnormal lesion site of the woman's cervix and sends it to the laboratory for tissue biopsy to determine the characteristics of the lesion (what disease it is), or to determine the pathological type and cell differentiation level of the tumor, and on this basis, formulate relevant treatment plans. Generally speaking, people who undergo cervical puncture biopsy are mostly those who are persistently infected with the HPV virus, those who have specific somatic cells in their cervical smears, etc.

Before doing a cervical puncture biopsy, most women probably want to know "Does a cervical biopsy hurt? Is a cervical puncture biopsy painful?" Because this examination requires obtaining a small piece of tissue from the cervix, which will cause a little trauma, and the cervix has no nerves, no anesthesia is required during the entire process, so of course there will be a painful experience, but most people can still bear this kind of pain. Of course, you don't have to worry about excessive bleeding, because the doctor will put a blood-activating sandbag on the wound, which can be taken out at will after 24 hours.

Usually, after obtaining the report of cervical puncture biopsy, the doctor can know whether the person undergoing routine physical examination has other diseases such as cervical cancer.

Next, let’s talk about the HPV (human papillomavirus infection) testing method. Because this test method is less affected by human error, highly sensitive, rapid, and objective, it has provided a new method for cervical cancer screening in recent years.

The survey found that more than 80% of people are likely to be infected with the HPV virus at different stages of their lives. HPV virus infection is divided into low-risk and high-risk types. Low-risk HPV virus infection has nothing to do with cervical cancer and CIN (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia), but high-risk HPV virus is a risk source for cervical lesions and CIN (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia). If the HPV test can detect infection with a high-risk virus as early as possible, further tests (such as a cervical biopsy) will be needed to confirm whether it is cervical cancer.
