What is female vaginal polyp?

In life, women often play the roles of daughters, wives, and mothers, and the pressure they bear is no less than that of men. Women often give people the impression of being introverted and reserved, which is also a female character trait formed by China's long history and culture. With the development of society, this point has not changed much. Women often have no way of speaking out when they are sick, especially when they have problems with their private parts. For example, what are vaginal polyps in women? How did this seemingly simple yet complex problem come about?

Cervical polyps are a manifestation of chronic cervicitis. There is a type of polyp whose root is attached to the cervical opening or cervical canal. It is formed by local hyperplasia of the cervical mucosa under the stimulation of inflammation, and protrudes out of the external opening of the cervix. The surface of the polyp is covered by a layer of columnar epithelium, which contains cervical glands. The stroma is rich in microvessels and loose connective tissue, accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration. This type of polyp can be single or multiple, and is generally small in size, with a diameter of less than 1 cm. It looks like a tongue, is bright red in color, soft and brittle in texture, easy to bleed, and has a slender pedicle. Another type of cervical polyp occurs in the cervical vaginal part, with a surface covered by stratified squamous epithelium and a stroma containing fibrous connective tissue. This type of polyp is superficial, protrudes to the surface, has a wide base, is light red in color, and has a tough texture.

Generally speaking, women with cervical polyps do not have any discomfort symptoms, sometimes with increased vaginal discharge, or blood in the vaginal discharge, or bleeding during intercourse. If the above conditions are found, the patient should go to the hospital for treatment. Many patients have cervical polyps discovered during screening or gynecological examinations for other diseases.

How are cervical polyps treated?

Once cervical polyps are discovered, they should be removed surgically. Cervical polypectomy is relatively simple. After disinfecting the vagina and cervix with iodine, use hemostatic forceps to clamp the base of the polyp pedicle and rotate it to remove it. The operation is painless. After the operation, the wound surface is applied with chlortetracycline powder and pressed with cotton balls to reduce inflammation and stop bleeding. If the polyp is large and has a thick pedicle, the broken ends can be electrocauterized to stop bleeding after removal. Regardless of the size of the removed polyps, pathological examination must be performed, because cervical polyps have a malignant transformation rate of 0.2% to 0.4%. Although this rate is very low, do not miss the diagnosis due to carelessness. In addition, although the polyps have been removed, the inflammation of the cervix has not been completely eliminated, so the polyps may recur and patients need regular check-ups.

Do you understand what female vaginal polyps are? Even though this is a private symptom that is difficult for women to talk about and describe clearly, having a certain understanding of it will help them avoid being overly fearful and frightened all day long. But we must remind everyone that you should always pay attention to changes in your body to ensure that when problems occur, you can detect them in time and receive treatment as soon as possible.
