What to do if a woman has a fungal infection

With the increasing incidence of diseases in the female private parts in recent years, we can see that the female vagina is infected with many bacteria due to improper care, which will make them feel itchy all the time, accompanied by odor, irregular menstruation and so on. Therefore, female friends should take the time to learn some methods of dealing with fungal infections. So what should women do if they have fungal infections? In the next period of time, please discuss this with me.

Fungal infections of the genitals can be sexually transmitted

Fungal infections are very common, affecting nearly 75% of women. Most vaginal yeast infections are caused by Candida albicans, and the main symptoms are itching, burning, discharge and pain. Common treatment methods include taking some oral antifungal drugs, keeping the genitals dry on a daily basis, avoiding the irritation of synthetic underwear, ensuring a light diet, etc. In addition, eating foods containing probiotics can also help prevent infection.

Candida albicans can also appear in the genitals of healthy women, but no discomfort will occur. In fact, it’s estimated that 20% to 50% of women already have Candida albicans in their genitals. When the balance between yeast and bacteria is disrupted, it can lead to fungal overgrowth, which can cause an infection.

Vulvar yeast infections can be spread through sexual intercourse, but are not considered a sexually transmitted disease because they can occur in women who have not had sexual intercourse.

Causes of vaginal yeast infection

When the bacterial balance in the genitals is broken, fungal infection will occur. So, what factors can destroy this balance? When women take certain medications, such as antibiotics, the bacterial balance will be destroyed. In addition, changes in hormone levels and disease factors can disrupt the balance of vaginal flora, leading to infection. At the same time, there is another possibility, that is, the woman's own immune system is suppressed and cannot respond to fungi normally. Suffering from tumors, chemotherapy, taking steroid drugs, and suffering from obesity will increase the risk of vaginal infection.

How to diagnose vaginal yeast infection

Although women can identify themselves by the signs and symptoms of a yeast infection, vaginal burning and discharge can also be caused by other conditions, such as bacterial vaginosis and Trichomonas infection. Therefore, women cannot rely solely on the symptoms of vaginal yeast infection to decide whether vaginal yeast infection actually exists. A more reliable method is to test the secretions through culture medium or direct observation under a microscope. Of course, this depends on the help of professional doctors.

Treatment of vaginal yeast infection

Fungal infections are usually treated with antifungal medications. Both prescription and over-the-counter medications can effectively treat symptoms of the infection. Typical over-the-counter antifungal drugs are applied directly to the lesions, such as clotrimazole, miconazole, etc., which are suppositories. At the same time, women can also treat recurring vaginal infections through oral tablets. Generally, fluconazole is the first choice of oral antifungal drugs.

The above paragraphs have given us a good introduction to some ways to deal with fungal infections in women. I sincerely hope that all female friends can study the above content carefully so that they can better apply them to the treatment of fungal infections, avoid taking more detours, and greatly reduce the cost of money and time.
