What are the symptoms of cervicitis?

Various gynecological diseases require female friends to be vigilant. Nowadays, the prevalence of gynecological diseases is gradually increasing, and the threat and harm to human health are also increasing. It can be said that it has sounded the alarm for people's health. It is still necessary to detect and treat it in time. Don't miss the best time for treatment. So what are the symptoms of cervicitis?

Common symptoms:

1. Acute cervicitis

Most patients are asymptomatic. Symptomatic patients mainly present with increased vaginal discharge, which is mucopurulent. Stimulation of the discharge can cause vulvar itching and burning sensation. In addition, symptoms such as intermenstrual bleeding and bleeding after sexual intercourse may occur. If combined with urinary tract infection, urinary urgency, frequent urination and pain may occur. If it is a Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection, due to the involvement of the paraurethral glands and Bartholin's glands, congestion and edema of the urethral and vaginal opening mucosa as well as a large amount of purulent secretions may be seen.

2. Chronic cervicitis

Most of the patients are asymptomatic. A few patients may have increased vaginal discharge, which is light yellow or purulent, bleeding after sexual intercourse, bleeding between menstruation, and occasional irritation from the discharge causing vulvar itching and discomfort. Gynecological examination may reveal erosive changes in the cervix, or yellow secretions covering or flowing out of the cervical opening. It may also manifest as cervical polyps or cervical hypertrophy.

Diagnosis of cervicitis is based on:

1. Acute cervicitis

The presence of one of two characteristic signs or an increase in the white blood cell count on microscopic examination of the cervical or vaginal secretions can make a preliminary diagnosis of acute cervicitis. After the diagnosis of cervicitis, further testing for Chlamydia and Neisseria gonorrhoeae is required. One or both of the two characteristic signs are present: ① Purulent or mucopurulent secretions can be seen with the naked eye on the cervical canal or cervical canal cotton swab specimen. ② When wiping the cervical canal with a cotton swab, it is easy to induce intracervical bleeding.

2. Chronic cervicitis

A preliminary diagnosis of chronic cervicitis can be made based on clinical manifestations, but care should be taken to differentiate the positive signs found during gynecological examination from common pathophysiological changes of the cervix (cervical CIN cancer or early cervical cancer).

The above article gives a clear introduction to the symptoms of cervicitis. I believe everyone knows that if cervicitis is not treated promptly and correctly, it can easily lead to cervical erosion and even cervical cancer. This will not only increase the harm but also make treatment more difficult. I hope everyone can seek treatment as soon as possible.
