What should pregnant women eat to supplement nutrition?

What should pregnant women eat to supplement nutrition?

We all know that it is very important and critical for mothers to supplement nutrition during pregnancy. If the mothers' nutrition is not sufficient, then malnutrition is very likely to occur. Malnutrition of pregnant women is very harmful to the fetus itself, because if the pregnant woman is not well-nourished, then the fetus is prone to absorb bad nutrition, which can easily lead to malnutrition in the child. So what should pregnant women eat to supplement nutrition during pregnancy?

Food exists independently, and no matter what type of food it is, it has its benefits to the body, but each food has its own suitable objects. As long as it is correct and appropriate, you can eat it. As long as you know that the food can be used as a tonic for pregnant women, you can eat it. So what supplements are good for pregnant women?

Generally, the dosage of multivitamin tablets sold on the market is designed based on the standard for pregnant women of average height and normal weight. Some imported or joint venture products may be produced according to American or European formulas. The average height and weight of local women are higher than those in my country, so the dosage will be larger than that of domestic vitamins. Pregnant women at home and abroad have different physiques and diets. What foreign pregnant women need to supplement may not be necessarily lacking in domestic pregnant women. Vitamins are not the more the better, so nutrition is not about completeness but about suitability. Supplement what you lack, and don’t supplement if you don’t lack anything. The prescription should be appropriate and the dosage should be appropriate. Therefore, when choosing health products for pregnant women, you should follow the principle that nutrition is not about quantity, but about accuracy; nutrition is not about completeness, but about suitability.

Vitamin A - If pregnant women take excessive amounts of vitamin A, it may not only cause miscarriage, but also cause fetal neurological and cardiovascular defects and facial deformities. Additional supplementation is not necessary unless you have been diagnosed with vitamin A deficiency. Generally speaking, a reasonable daily diet can provide 5,000 to 8,000 international units of vitamin A, which not only fully meets the daily needs of pregnant women, but also meets the daily requirement of 8,000 international units of vitamin A for lactating women.

Vitamin C: If pregnant women take excessive amounts of vitamin C (more than 1000 mg) daily, it will affect the embryo.

Development, because large doses of vitamin C can easily form an "acidic constitution" in the body, which is not conducive to the development of reproductive cells, and long-term excessive use can also cause scurvy in the fetus after birth.

Vitamin D - If taken in excess (more than 15 mg per day), it can cause hypercalcemia in the fetus, leading to stenosis of the aorta and renal arteries, hypertension, and mental retardation. Then there is folic acid, which we often mention. If the daily intake exceeds 1 mg, it can affect the absorption of zinc and cause zinc deficiency; lead to fetal growth retardation and an increase in low birth weight babies; it may also mask vitamin B12 deficiency and cause damage to the nervous system; it can interfere with the effect of anticonvulsant drugs and induce convulsions.

Calcium - Excessive calcium intake can cause hypercalcemia and stones; reduce fetal birth weight; inhibit iron absorption, reduce zinc bioavailability, make magnesium metabolism potentially toxic; reduce phosphorus absorption;

Pregnant women must supplement nutrition appropriately and not eat too much, but must eat enough. Therefore, this is very difficult to achieve. When supplementing nutrition, it is best to choose to adjust with food, and never use drugs to improve. No drugs can be taken during pregnancy. No matter what drug it is, it will have a certain impact on the fetus. Health products are not good either. There are too many nutritious foods in life. Eating more vitamin foods and foods with high protein content will be helpful to the fetus.
