How long is the normal menstrual period?

Many female friends will have varying degrees of menstrual irregularities due to various reasons. The main manifestation is early or late menstruation. Sometimes many female friends will also find that their menstruation is irregular. If the menstruation is irregular for a long time, it is likely caused by certain diseases. The following editor will introduce some common reasons for prolonged menstruation.

The normal menstrual period lasts for 2 to 7 days, and in some cases it lasts for 3 to 5 days. If your period lasts longer than 7 days, it is considered a prolonged period. Prolonged menstruation should be taken seriously and the cause should be thoroughly investigated.

(1) Blood diseases such as thrombocytopenic purpura and aplastic anemia are often accompanied by menstruation. If severe uterine bleeding occurs, the menstrual period will be prolonged. Other conditions such as chronic anemia, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, nephritis, etc. can make the blood vessel walls fragile, increase permeability and cause bleeding.

(2) Pelvic inflammation, intrauterine polyps, endometritis, etc. are all caused by poor intrauterine blood circulation, degeneration and necrosis, or pelvic congestion, which lead to menorrhagia and prolonged menstruation.

(3) Chronic uterine hypertrophy (myometritis) is caused by pelvic congestion and continuous increase in ovarian estrogen, which causes thickening of the uterine muscle layer, resulting in excessive menstruation and prolonged menstruation.

(4) Gynecological experts point out that uterine fibroids, especially submucosal fibroids, can cause menorrhagia and prolonged menstruation due to the expansion of the uterine cavity and abnormal contraction.

(5) What should I do if my menstrual period lasts for a long time? Dysfunctional uterine bleeding, such as anovulatory dysfunctional uterine bleeding and irregular endometrial shedding, are caused by endocrine dysfunction and lead to prolonged menstruation.

(6) Endometriosis often causes menorrhagia or prolonged menstruation due to affecting the contraction of the uterine muscle layer or due to endometrial enhancement.

(7) Insertion of an IUD can also cause prolonged menstruation.

When female friends have their menstrual period, they should pay attention to their lifestyle and diet. Try not to stay up late for a long time and avoid strenuous activities. In terms of diet, they should try to eat lighter and nutritious foods. It is best not to eat irritating or cold foods, as these are likely to cause a prolonged menstrual period.
