Do I need to fast during pregnancy NT test?

1. You don't need to be on an empty stomach or hold your urine when doing NT. Just check the clarity of the baby's neck. An increase in the thickness of the fetal nuchal translucency, exceeding 2mm, is considered to be associated with an increased risk of trisomy 21. Generally, there is no need to hold your urine, and it will not affect the fetus.

2. The nuchal transparent layer of the fetus is commonly known as NT, which refers to the thickness of the fluid accumulation in the subcutaneous tissue at the back of the fetus' neck. Clinical trials in the past decade have found that the use of ultrasound to measure the thickness of the nuchal translucency has a very important clinical performance and also increases the possibility of fetal abnormalities. Many fetuses with thickened nuchal translucency are diagnosed with chromosomal abnormalities, anatomical abnormalities or some genetic syndromes.

3. It has been reported that among fetuses with thickened nuchal translucency at 10-14 weeks of pregnancy, about 10% have chromosomal abnormalities. In the fetus with normal sex chromosomes and thickened lamina lucidum.

How to do NT test?

1. This type of screening is mainly done with ultrasound scanning, usually on your abdomen, but it also depends on the position of the baby and uterus. If necessary, it can be done with vaginal ultrasound. Intravaginal ultrasound is not dangerous for you or your baby and should not cause too much discomfort.

2. In order to accurately measure your pregnancy, the ultrasound doctor will measure the baby's arm-head diameter and the width of the nuchal translucency. Under B-ultrasound, the baby's skin looks like lines, and the fluid under the skin looks gray-black. Your baby will look very clear at this stage. Although some major abnormalities may be eliminated in this B-ultrasound, it is still recommended that you have a detailed B-ultrasound at 20 weeks.

In general, you don't need to check if you are on an empty stomach or hold your urine when doing a NT during pregnancy. We still need scientific research to find out. Moms, please don’t worry. Just let it go and don’t be too anxious. After all, there will be children in the belly, and mothers must always maintain their physical and mental health during this period. I hope all mothers have a healthy and happy baby.
