What should I do if my vaginal discharge is yellow-green and my vulva is itchy after pregnancy?

After pregnancy, we all hope that our bodies are healthy and free of any diseases, so that the fetus can grow more healthily. However, some pregnant women experience abnormal symptoms of leucorrhea after pregnancy, such as yellow-green leucorrhea and vulvar itching. Such conditions indicate that the patient has gynecological inflammation. Patients need to go to the hospital for regular examinations to diagnose the type of disease so that they can take effective treatment. So what should I do if my vaginal discharge is yellow-green and my vulva is itchy after pregnancy?

Abnormally excessive vaginal discharge indicates vaginitis, which is a local manifestation of vaginal flora imbalance. Vaginal disinfection and taking anti-inflammatory drugs are a misunderstanding. The reason is that these drugs kill the normal vaginal flora that has a self-cleaning effect while killing pathogenic bacteria. Therefore, they can only achieve temporary relief. Due to the loss of protection of normal flora, a new round of infection will soon occur, leading to prolonged and recurring infections. At this time, the patient needs effective care and treatment.

Disease care:

1. Regular check-ups: Even if you do not feel any discomfort, you should still have regular check-ups.

2. Wear less tight pants or jeans, and choose cotton underwear.

3. Don’t use sanitary pads on daily basis. Some women are worried that leucorrhea will stain their underwear, so they always like to use sanitary pads even if they are not menstruating. In fact, sanitary pads have poor air permeability and are not hygienic for long-term use. If you use sanitary pads that are not disinfected properly, the effect will be counterproductive. In addition, it is not advisable to frequently use various medicinal liquids to clean the vagina. Doing so will damage the vaginal environment, cause dysbacteriosis and induce vaginitis.

4. Enhance immunity: Keep exercising, strengthen your physical fitness, get enough sleep, eat a proper diet, have a balanced nutrition, and eat more foods rich in vitamins.

5. Psychological adjustment: Do more things that make you happy, learn to adjust your mind, maintain a good mental state, and avoid excessive excitement and impatience.

Disease treatment:

General treatment: Pay attention to menstrual hygiene, keep the vulva clean and dry, and avoid scratching. Do not wash with hot water and avoid using soap. When there is an infection, potassium permanganate solution can be used for a sitz bath, but local scrubbing is strictly prohibited. Clothes, especially underwear, should be loose and breathable. Avoid alcohol and spicy or allergic foods.

Etiological treatment: Eliminate local or systemic factors that cause itching, such as trichomoniasis, fungal infection or diabetes.

Topical medications: In case of acute inflammation, you can use 1% levofloxacin plus 1 foil, livanol solution, or 30% boric acid solution for wet compresses, and apply 40% zinc oxide ointment topically after washing; for chronic itching, you can apply corticosteroid ointment or 2% diphenhydramine ointment.

Excessive yellow-green leucorrhea and vulvar itching after pregnancy are very harmful. According to the patient's condition, the infection is bacterial vaginitis. As long as the patient actively treats the disease, the condition can be controlled and there will be no effect on the pregnant woman and the fetus. If the patient does not treat the disease in time, the condition will worsen, resulting in more serious effects and endangering the normal development of the fetus.
