What are the causes of menstrual disorders during adolescence?

Only when a girl has her first menstruation does it mark the true arrival of her youth. However, the onset of menstruation will also bring a lot of distress to young girls. Some people even hope that menstruation will never come. Therefore, when menstruation comes only once every few months, or the menstrual flow is very small, they will not only not be troubled, but may even be secretly happy. In fact, this is a symptom of irregular menstruation. What causes it?

1. Irregular menstruation. Many adolescent girls have irregular menstrual cycles and blood volume. In the first few years after menarche, the interval between menstrual cycles can be as long as two or three months. This is normal and most of them have no concerns.

Heavy menstrual bleeding rarely occurs in most otherwise healthy adolescent girls, but if it does occur it needs to be treated, just like heavy bleeding caused by other conditions such as trauma, which should not be ignored. If a teenage girl is not taking oral contraceptives but has spotting between periods, it may be the first symptom of a reproductive system cancer.

2. Secondary amenorrhea. The cause of secondary amenorrhea in adolescence is mainly due to temporary dysfunction of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis function, and organic causes are less common. Pregnancy is also a factor that needs to be excluded when diagnosing secondary amenorrhea. Due to early puberty and the influence of bad social trends, some girls have sexual relations too early and have no knowledge of pregnancy. They are not discovered by their parents or teachers until the late pregnancy. Other causes that may affect hypothalamic function and cause secondary amenorrhea include emotional stress, sudden weight loss, athletes whose muscles grow more through strenuous training to replace body fat, and taking strong drugs.

Adolescent girls should know some common sense about women. If they find that their menstruation is abnormal, they should communicate with their parents in time and see a doctor when necessary. As parents, we should always pay attention to the physical and mental health of our children, and seek medical attention in time if we find any abnormalities to avoid lifelong regrets.
