Is it necessary to remove wisdom teeth when preparing for pregnancy?

Anyone who has experienced toothache will know that this kind of pain is very unbearable and severe, and its pain level is no less than heartache, abdominal pain and so on. Pregnant mothers are very troubled and helpless when it comes to wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth can seriously affect our image. So, why do you need to extract teeth during the pregnancy preparation period?

Why do you need to extract teeth during pregnancy?

For some wisdom teeth, under normal circumstances, the dentist may say "If it doesn't hurt or swell, you can ignore it for the time being", but when they hear that you want to get pregnant, they will immediately change their tone and suggest that you "Have it removed, otherwise it will be very inconvenient when you get pregnant".

Weird isn't it? The reason is actually "pregnancy".

Once a woman becomes pregnant, her body's hormone levels change drastically, and her teeth are very likely to have problems. First, the incidence of gingivitis (swollen, painful and bleeding gums) will increase sharply. In 2008, a survey of 700 pregnant women in Shanghai found that the incidence of gingivitis during pregnancy was as high as 73.6%; the incidence of gingival tumor (a tumor-like mass growing on the gums) will also increase, and the data reported in various surveys are approximately between 0.43% and 5%.

Pregnant women with pericoronitis of wisdom teeth are often more serious after concurrent maxillofacial space infection. Coupled with the changes in the physiological and psychological barriers of pregnant women, the treatment becomes very complicated.

In the hospital outpatient department, we often encounter pregnant women who come to consult for treatment due to various dental diseases such as caries, periodontitis, and pericoronitis of wisdom teeth. They usually ignore these oral problems before pregnancy, resulting in the concentrated and obvious outbreak of these diseases during pregnancy.

Therefore, dentists will recommend that women planning to become pregnant should try to control foreseeable safety risks as much as possible, including having their teeth cleaned and also removing problematic wisdom teeth as soon as possible.

What should I pay attention to when extracting teeth?

Removing wisdom teeth is a relatively complicated operation, and some things need to be noted: First, choose a reliable designated medical institution and a clinician who has undergone reliable training and has a qualification certificate. Secondly, before removing wisdom teeth, you should exclude some serious systemic diseases and keep your overall condition in good condition to avoid cardiovascular accidents during the removal process. In addition, pregnant women should be particularly careful before removing wisdom teeth.

It is recommended to remove wisdom teeth before pregnancy. Finally, you do not need to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth within 24 hours after removing the wisdom teeth. You should avoid some serious complications, such as bleeding, infection, pain, etc. You should also take oral anti-inflammatory drugs to control local infection, maintain oral health, and avoid eating some hard and hot foods.

Generally speaking, tooth extraction during the pregnancy preparation period is very necessary, otherwise it will cause great harm to our baby. Wisdom teeth can also cause a series of confusion in our daily lives. However, during the period of preparing for pregnancy, female friends do not need to worry too much and should maintain a positive attitude, otherwise it will easily affect their physical and mental health. Women should still maintain adequate sleep during pregnancy preparation.
