What to do if you have difficulty urinating after childbirth

In life, if a pregnant woman is not well taken care of after giving birth, it will cause serious harm to her body. Sometimes pregnant women experience this phenomenon after giving birth, and they have difficulty urinating. Once this phenomenon occurs, pregnant women will feel very uncomfortable. So we need to understand how to deal with this situation. So what should you do if you have difficulty urinating after childbirth? Let’s see how authoritative experts answer this question.

During pregnancy, the water in the pregnant woman's body is mainly excreted through urination and sweating. However, in the late pregnancy, the enlarged uterus presses on the bladder, reducing the tension of the bladder muscles. During delivery, the fetal head presses on the bladder tightly for a long time, weakening the contraction of the bladder muscles. Therefore, although the pressure of the uterus on the bladder is reduced after delivery, the bladder is no longer able to expel the urine due to the decrease in bladder muscle tension and the weakening of its contraction function. In addition, some women underwent episiotomy during delivery. When urinating, urine irritates the wound and causes pain, leading to spasm of the urethral sphincter, which is also the cause of difficulty urinating after delivery. Some women are not used to urinating in bed, which can also cause difficulty urinating. If you still cannot urinate 5 to 6 hours after delivery, doctors call it postpartum urinary retention.

Postpartum urination difficulties are very uncomfortable. If you have urination difficulties after childbirth, you can take the following measures to deal with it:

1. The best way to prevent postpartum urination difficulties is to actively urinate 6 to 8 hours after delivery, and do not wait until you have urine. When urinating, you should increase your confidence, relax your mind, and urinate calmly and naturally, especially focusing on the urine.

2. If you cannot urinate, you can apply a hot water bottle to the lower abdomen or use warm water to fumigate the vulva and area around the urethra. You can also use the sound of dripping water to induce urination.

3. To promote bladder muscle contraction, acupuncture can be used on Guanyuan, Qihai, Sanyinjiao and other acupoints, or 0.5 mg of neostigmine can be injected intramuscularly.

4. You can take 0.6 grams each of the Chinese medicine agarwood, amber and cinnamon and drink it with boiled water.

5. If the above methods are still ineffective, catheterization should be performed under sterile conditions and the catheter should be left in place for 24 to 48 hours to allow the bladder to fully rest. After the edema and congestion disappear, the tension will naturally recover and the bladder will be able to urinate on its own.

The above is an introduction to what to do if you have difficulty urinating after childbirth. If you have difficulty urinating after childbirth, you must find the cause of this phenomenon and treat it effectively. This will more effectively prevent the occurrence of more serious diseases. Pregnant women can also eat more foods that can improve their physical fitness in their daily lives. By taking such measures, they can more effectively prevent the occurrence of some diseases.
