What to do if your lower abdomen hurts and your menstruation is delayed

When my period is often delayed, I usually don’t get nervous because I understand my own characteristics. I have a particularly cold body, which is also a characteristic of people in Northeast China. But no matter how cold it is in Northeast China in winter, I will still eat ice cream and I will eat a lot if I am happy. This is because of myself, so I am not particularly nervous every time.

The lower abdomen is the place of the most yin, and belongs to the Jueyin. Lower abdominal pain should be differentiated into qi, blood, cold, heat, deficiency and treated accordingly. For qi stagnation, use Simo Decoction; for blood stasis, disperse it with hands; for cold depression, use Erchen Decoction plus dried ginger, Evodia rutaecarpa, Atractylodes macrocephala, and Magnolia officinalis; for heat depression, use Sini Powder plus Coptis chinensis, Gardenia safflower, Cyperus rotundus, and Scutellaria baicalensis; for deep cold, use Lizhong Decoction plus Aconitum carmichaelii, Cinnamon bark, Evodia rutaecarpa, and Fennel; for qi deficiency, use Erchen Decoction plus Cimicifuga heracleifolia, Bupleurum chinense, dried ginger, and Angelica sinensis; for sexual intercourse when drunk and full, and lower abdominal distension and pain, use Angelica sinensis, Paeonia lactiflora, Ligusticum chuanxiong, Bupleurum chinense, Citrus aurantium, Evodia rutaecarpa, and Licorice.

The types of lower abdominal pain vary at different ages and time periods:

1. Ovulation abdominal pain

The ovulation period is about two weeks before menstruation. At this time, the follicle ruptures and the follicular fluid stimulates the peritoneum, causing women to experience mild abdominal pain alternating between the left and right sides once a month, mostly manifested as dull pain or heaviness on one side of the lower abdomen. The pain can last from a few hours to no more than 2 days. This pain is a physiological problem, so there is no need to worry too much and no treatment is required.

2. Dysmenorrhea

Every woman will experience dysmenorrhea to a greater or lesser extent, and dysmenorrhea can be divided into two types: primary and secondary. The former is more common in unmarried girls and will be alleviated after marriage and childbirth. However, if you have dysmenorrhea after marriage, you should be careful of gynecological diseases. The most common one is endometriosis, which is secondary dysmenorrhea. The pain will gradually worsen. You will also have dull pain in the lower abdomen during non-menstrual period, and it will worsen before and after menstruation. This pain needs treatment.

3. IUD incarceration

After a woman reaches the age of 40, her cervix and uterus will gradually shrink. If the size of the IUD does not change, it will get stuck in the uterus or even become ectopic, accompanied by low back pain, abdominal pain, lower abdominal distension, or irregular bleeding.

Many friends get very nervous when their menstruation does not come on time. Being nervous is not a bad thing. Maybe through being nervous you can pay more attention to your physical health and regulate your body on time. But some friends said that they did not have their menstruation on time but their stomachs were very painful. This is caused by your cold body, so you should pay attention to warming up your body.
