Why is my period light in color?

Why is my period light in color?

When our female friends have their periods, the color of their menstrual blood is usually darker, and there are more blood streaks, so the sanitary napkins are darker in the first one or two days. However, some women can find that their menstrual blood is light gray even when the menstrual blood volume is heavier. After all, the menstrual blood volume used to be thick and dark brown. So, what causes the light color of menstrual blood?

What causes light menstrual color?

In addition to blood, there are also a small amount of fallen debris, cervical mucus and vaginal squamous epithelial cells in menstruation, so the normal color of menstrual blood is generally dark red. However, some girls find that their menstrual blood is lighter in color, light pink, and thinner. So, what is the reason for the light red and thin menstrual blood?

Menstruation is carried out with the utmost cooperation of the five internal organs of the body. Menstruation and the symptoms before, after, and after can very well reflect the blood and Qi condition of the female body. Generally speaking, menstruation is dark red, neither thin nor thick, not coagulated, without blood clots, and no special smell. If the menstruation is light in color and thin, it is mostly related to "deficiency", such as Qi deficiency, Qi and blood deficiency, spleen deficiency, kidney deficiency, or damp phlegm.

1. Qi deficiency: due to acquired deficiency, or excessive deficiency and loss, or long-term illness, symptoms such as physical weakness, pale complexion, shortness of breath, limb fatigue, dizziness, sweating easily, light-colored menstruation, and heavy menstrual flow may occur;

2. Deficiency of Qi and Blood: Caused by improper diet, excessive fatigue, emotional upset, excessive blood loss, long-term illness, etc., symptoms such as pale or sallow complexion, dizziness, palpitations, frequent dreams, numbness of hands and feet, scanty and pale menstruation, late menstruation, or liver depression and kidney deficiency may occur;

3. Spleen deficiency: mostly caused by unbalanced diet, improper work and rest, or long-term illness leading to deficiency of qi and blood. Symptoms may include fatigue, mental fatigue, lack of energy, thin body, obesity, edema, scanty menstruation, etc.

4. Kidney deficiency: congenital deficiency of kidney essence and kidney qi, or damage caused by excessive sexual intercourse, excessive childbirth, abortion surgery, etc., may cause symptoms such as frequent urination, memory loss, insomnia, fatigue resistance, back pain and weak legs, light menstrual color, scanty menstruation or amenorrhea;

5. Damp phlegm: Living in a damp environment for a long time, such as damp weather, rain, etc., the moisture in the body will damage the body and cause illness, which may cause chest tightness, shortness of breath, cough and sputum, easy fatigue, joint pain, numbness of the skin, edema of the limbs, frequent bowel movements, and unformed stools.

What to do if your menstrual period is dark

Under normal circumstances, women's menstruation is dark red. In addition to blood, there are also uterine wall fragments, cervical mucus and fallen vaginal squamous epithelial cells. Some women have less menstrual flow and dark blood, which may be caused by menstruation being deposited in the uterine cavity for a long time. Because menstruation is mixed with fallen uterine wall fragments, cervical mucus and squamous epithelial cells in the vagina, it looks darker in color and is not as bright red as the blood discharged from skin damage. Some small thin fragments will continue to be mixed in the menstruation. In this case, the small amount of menstrual flow and darkening of the period can be adjusted through diet and lifestyle care:

1. Avoid eating raw or cold food; you can regulate your body through diet therapy such as motherwort soup, brown sugar ginger water, etc.

2. Be careful to clean your reproductive organs before and after sex, and be gentle during sex to avoid damaging the reproductive system;

3. Maintain a stable lifestyle, choose breathable, pure cotton underwear, and change it frequently.

4. Avoid sexual intercourse during menstruation.

5. Maintain a happy spirit and learn to adjust negative emotions.

A woman's scanty menstrual flow and darkening of the discharge may also be caused by pathological factors. Therefore, it is recommended that women go to the hospital for a physical examination in time to see if they suffer from ovarian disease or cervical disease. If it is caused by symptoms, they should be treated as soon as possible and their menstruation will resume quickly after the cause is eliminated.
