What causes blood in vaginal discharge?

We usually call vaginal secretions leucorrhea, and sometimes we will have abnormal leucorrhea, such as excessive leucorrhea, or bloody leucorrhea. If we have bloody leucorrhea, what is going on? We need to understand the reasons so that we can take relevant preventive measures and avoid this situation from happening again next time.

Leucorrhea with blood usually occurs in the following situations

1. Cervicitis causes leucorrhea bleeding: The symptoms of cervicitis are not obvious, mainly increased leucorrhea, which is easy to be ignored. When it develops into severe cervical erosion, leucorrhea bleeding is likely to occur due to the thinning of the cervical epithelium, mainly manifested as bleeding after sexual intercourse and after gynecological examination; another manifestation of cervicitis is cervical polyps. When the polyps are larger, there will be spotting, which also manifests as leucorrhea bleeding.

2. Vaginal diseases cause leucorrhea bleeding and uterine diseases: Leucorrhea bleeding comes from the vagina and uterus, which means that leucorrhea bleeding indicates diseases of the reproductive system, including vaginitis, uterine polyps, functional uterine bleeding, cervical cancer, uterine fibroids, endometrial cancer, etc. These diseases have a tendency to bleed, and blood mixes in the leucorrhea, which feels like leucorrhea bleeding.

3. Ovulation bleeding causes leucorrhea bleeding: Leucorrhea bleeding occurs in the middle of the two menstrual cycles, in the form of drops, and lasts for 1-2 days. It is considered to be due to ovulation bleeding. This is due to a temporary drop in estrogen levels, which causes the endometrium to lose hormonal support and partial shedding of the endometrium, causing vaginal bleeding.

4. An unsuitable IUD causes leucorrhea bleeding: Many women of childbearing age choose to have an intrauterine contraceptive ring for contraception. There will be leucorrhea bleeding in the early stage of placement, which will usually disappear gradually after 3 months. If there is long-term leucorrhea bleeding, it means that the intrauterine contraceptive ring is not suitable for the wearer. You should go to the hospital and ask the doctor to make appropriate adjustments, or even change to other contraceptive rings or contraceptive methods. The above introduces the four main reasons for bloody vaginal discharge. If we find that our condition has not improved, we should go to the doctor immediately to check what is wrong. Women should take care of their bodies.
