What are the symptoms of high prolactin

Nowadays, more and more female friends suffer from high pituitary prolactin, which is also a very common problem nowadays. Many female friends often suffer from various diseases due to irregular daily life and high pressure and fast pace of work. So what are the symptoms of high pituitary prolactin? Female patients must understand the causes of this type of disease. Only by recognizing their own condition can they go to the hospital for medical diagnosis and treatment, so as to avoid the occurrence of subsequent complications as soon as possible.

Pituitary prolactin, also known as prolactin (PRL), is a polypeptide hormone and one of the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. In the late stages of pregnancy and lactation, the pituitary gland secretes prolactin vigorously to promote breast development and lactation. As for the reference value of pituitary prolactin, the normal value of pituitary prolactin for women of childbearing age should be 5-25ng/ml. If pituitary prolactin is >35ng/ml, it means that pituitary prolactin is elevated.

The secretion of pituitary prolactin is pulsatile and varies greatly throughout the day. The pulse amplitude of pituitary prolactin secretion increases rapidly within 1 hour of sleep, then the secretion level remains at a high level during sleep and begins to decline after waking up. The concentration of pituitary prolactin secretion in serum at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning is twice that at noon. The secretion of pituitary prolactin is affected by many factors. In addition, drugs such as progesterone, dexamethasone, cortisol, and acute stress situations such as intense physical activity and trauma can cause increased secretion of pituitary prolactin.

So what are the symptoms of high pituitary prolactin? The specific symptoms are as follows:

1. Menstrual irregularities: 4% for primary amenorrhea, 89% for secondary amenorrhea, 7% for oligomenorrhea or too little menstruation. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding and luteal dysfunction account for 23% to 77%. Ovulatory dysfunction and luteal insufficiency are manifested by oligomenorrhea, amenorrhea and infertility, which are the most common symptoms. Other related symptoms include habitual abortion, loss of libido, hirsutism, acne, etc. Gynecological examination may reveal symptoms of estrogen deficiency, such as dry vaginal mucosa and decreased secretions.

2. Galactorrhea: Milk can be seen by squeezing both breasts, and fat droplets can be seen under the microscope. In non-tumor type, it is 20.84%. 70.52% of the tumor type. Simple galactorrhea: 63-83.55%. The breasts are usually normal or with lobular hyperplasia or macromastia.

3. Osteopenia: The long-term decrease in estrogen levels caused by HP can cause a decrease in bone density.

4. When there is a high level of prolactin, visual impairment, nervous system diseases, hypopituitarism, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea and other diseases may occur.

In fact, there are many reasons for high levels of prolactin in women. The above introduction also allows female patients to understand the symptoms of high prolactin. Female patients can find out whether they suffer from elevated pituitary prolactin by observing their own physiological changes. If you suffer from such diseases, you must seek medical attention promptly, follow the doctor's advice, and receive medication or other medical treatment.
